Expiration of JSB

    Hi all,

Just looking for a bit of advice. I'm currently on jobseekers benefit, getting the 196 per week. When I applied for the social welfare last March, I was not entitled to jobseekers benefit as I had not paid enough tax etc. I was (evenutally) means tested for jobseekers allowance, and I live at home (im 24) so had to give my parents wages etc. When it eventually came through, I was given jobseekers benefit.

I am just wondering what happens when the 12 months expire, as I understand that is the duration of JSB. Would I be means tested again? Or would the payments stop? Or does it continue as I was originally means tested? Just a bit worried as to what might happen (as when I first applied, it took 5 months to finally get on the register, as I might be in a bit of bother if it suddenly stops)

    Cheers if anyone can help.

    Many thanks.

JSB runs for 235 days, not a full year, if I'm not mistaken?

nine moths or almost a full year i think depending on how many stamps you have

When your stamps run out you have to apply for Job seekers allowance which is a means tested payment.

So it'll be a second means test?

    Thanks all.

i didnt realise this could happen, what if you are working 2 days and getting paid for 4, do you still have a time frame when you can claim
