Looking advice on mobile broadband

I am hoping someone can give some advice on which mobile provider/plan would suit me best?

I've had a look at the providers websites, and from what I can see, the cheapest is €3/day, €10/week, €20/month for prepay.

I will have a very sporadic requirement, maybe 1 or 2 days a month most months, possibly the odd weekend/week say once or twice a year.

Is it possible to use a phone sim with internet addon either teathered to the laptop, or with the phone sim in a broadband dongle? That would give me 50 meg per day for 99c on vodafone. (this limit would suit 90% of my usage)

Then for whenever I need more data allowance, or for the odd time I need 5 days coverage I can get a daily or weekly pass on either three or vodafone and use a dongle.

Also just thought of another question, is it possible to get the broadband dongle sims without the dongle from the providers? I have plenty of dongles I can use already.

    Cheers, Des.

Before you go tethering your phone as a modem you may need to check what APN to use as on your net there may be different pricing for the different apn's your network uses i.e. you may not get the daily limiit charge. - not sure which is which so you may be best off checking.

i think i saw someone mention on the O2 forum that they're starting a trial of prepay broadband sim only connections in a few stores... might be worth checking out

With 3 you just buy a 3pay sim and pop it into the modem. The two APN's are 3ireland.ie or 3internet. Doesn't matter which as cost is the same using both.
