Flight departure & Illness

I'm supposed to leave for India tomorrow. A flight from Shannon to Stanstead with Aer Lingus and from Stanstead to Delhi with Virgin.

At the moment, it doesn't look like I'll be physically able for the trip - but I would like to know:

Is there any compensation for missing a flight due to illness?
Is it acceptable or even possible to share a flight with others when you are visibly quite unwell?

    Thank you,
    merlin

It's not a missed flight yet. It could be a planned date change.
Your Travel Insurance should cover you for any travel costs because of illness from the time of cover. Also if you booked by Credit Card, you may be covered.
This may be the cost to change dates on a ticket.
If you want to make the decision early to cancel/or change date. Then let airline and Insurance know as they will be better able to accomodate you.

For your second question, it depends if Scary SKY News was showing at the departure gate before boarding. Your flight will be jam packed, use you illness to get an aisle seat if you can.
If people have to travel on a plane, then they have to travel on a plane.
I travelled with a serious head cold (spluttering everywhere) from developing world to Europe during a 'Bird 'Flu' scare. It wasn't my fault.
So I have sympathy if other passengers have to travel.

A flight from Shannon to Stanstead with Aer Lingus and from Stanstead to Delhi with Virgin.

I'm assuming you mean Heathrow? ;)

The first would only be covered if you have travel insurance.

The second is a personal matter: I would say no. Plus, do you really want to go to India with a pre-existing illness? What happens if you get worse? Your travel insurance most likely will not cover a pre-existing condition.

Thanks LiamMc & BuffyBot. Sound advice from both of you there.

I did mean Heathrow BuffyBot, nicely spotted. I think I'll try to change the flight for a week later and if the costs are too high just chalk it up to experience.

I'll contact the airline and the travel insurance company and see what my options are.

    Thanks for your help.
