who has written an app for iPhone?

    Hi,

I have a couple of ideas for apps. I've been googling about writing apps, and it seems that you really have to have programming knowledge and a mac to do it properly. I'd have an extremely basic knowledge of programming, and I only have access to windows computers at work and at home.

Is there any way of writing an app using a windows program? I'd even be interested in writing it in windows first to make sure it works, and then getting someone to re-write it on a mac so it could be published.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Wayne

You can only download the iPhone SDK on a Mac and so you can only develop on a Mac. Unless you can find some way of getting the SDK to run on a windows machine you'll be at a dead stop there.

As far as learning the trade, there are a lot of good books out there that step by step walk you through how to write apps. Even, apple's developer's website has some step by step tutorials. I would recommend writing some basic apps for the Mac first to learn the ropes. Just some arbitrary apps.

Cos what it seems to come down to is learning what all the classes do and how to make them work for you. Get some basics, and iPhone development will be ok. There's a lot of resources out there to help you, but it will come down in the end to hard work and a lot of screen time to get up to speed.

Also have a look at this thread. Lots of application developers there.

Also, unbeknownst to many people, we have a Mobile Development forum where such programmers hang out.
