Not sure if this has been mentioned already but for those of you who haven't heard, Call of Duty 7 is going to be set in Vietnam

I think it will be many, many years till Call of Duty gets to an official 7th game.

"Activision believes that it can own Christmas again, just as it has in the last two years. Development is on course - and Treyarch have been told the game must be ready to hit shelves before the gifting season."

So, less than a year away. The next game due has always been COD7, as Modern Warfare 2 was the 6th title in the franchise. So, while it won't be actually called COD7, it'll still be the seventh official release for the series. Activision get to say what is and isn't official....

Treyarch can't top IW for cinematic scripting, but you can hardly blame them with some of the tight development cycles they're given....World at War was a solid game, if the new Vietnam title is even as good, then I'm a definite buyer.

Sorry, what? You said it'll be a long time before they get to an official 7th COD game. The new Treyarch one due November of this year, is the 7th, completely official Call of Duty title, seeing as it's published by Activision who own the name.

How GTA chooses to chronologically name its releases is completely irrelevant....but regardless, GTA IV is still, technically, the 6th 'official' release, or whatever it is. But again, what the actual numeric is is completely irrelevant.

Or do you know something we don't that makes the 7th Call of Duty release, from Activision, owner of the franchise, not 'official'?

I'm pretty sure they're going to go back to the proper numbering system. And once they do, you wouldn't say there are two CoD5, CoD 6 or CoD 7. I would prefer not to wait till that point for a bit of accuracy in the naming of the games. I don't think that is such an outlandish idea, I think its logical.

I always get worried when I read bits like this with regards to deadlines. It often means that a game is seriously flawed on initial release and needs multiple patches to get it right.

To be honest I'm not bothered about whatever title they give it, I'm more interested in the gameplay which I assume will be a bit like the Pacific misions in World at War, would be interesting if they included a patrol boat mission like that scene in Apocalypse Now

Nice to see Treyarch stepping outside the WWII setting. I have'nt seen many games set during Vietnam so it'll be interesting to see how this works out.

The problem with Vietnam games is that they are set within jungle settings a lot of times and making believable trees in a game engine is quite difficult. Yes it is possible to make an area populated with trees like in Crysis but to have a very dense jungle is quite difficult. That was one of the huge problems with previous Vietnam games.

hmmm well I rememeber playing medal of honour X (I think It was set in the pacific on ps2) and there was jungle levels that were very realistic at the time, granted the levels were super linear but I was really impressed at the time.

I think the problem with Vietnam games is that America got there ass handed to them in that war, so Vietnam games were developed with lower budgets and not the state of the art tech of the day.
