Car insurance age and advice

Hey guys, i'm 22 and looking around for a car, just got myself a quite quote on a 1.3 petrol toyota corrolla from axa, 2900 euro (fully comp), the car base cost is around 2,000. I'm living in west dublin.

I was wondering when the age of the driver doesn't matter, cause i hate the insurance system :( cause i can wait another year to get a car, when i'm 23, would that change anything, or should i just get a car now and build up my no claims. I've 2 years no claims on a motorbike, but of course that doesn't count cause the system is lame.
so shall i get the car now, like a 0.8 engine for like 300 euro and get no claims for the year?

wait what? 1.3 car for €2900 fully comp? do you have your full licence? when i was 18 i was fully comp, had a 1.3 fiesta and provisional licence and it was still cheaper than that. (about €2000) and that was with axa...

have you shopped around for some other quotes?

Tried quinn, but their website is useless, it never gives a quote, and yeah i'm on my provisional. I don't really know any other good car insurance companies, i'll have a look around now though.

//edit. Tried axa on a ford escort 1.4 4dr and go 2400 euro, gonna keep shopping.

Try Onedirect, I have used them and they normally seem reasonable and count named driving experience as part of no claims discount.

try ringing them then, their prices are usually pretty good like. it would definately be worth it anyway.

Try geting the full licence:D If that fails go for a one litre just to start off with.If you can afford a car and insurance now id say go for it and build up the no claims if not wait until next year and it will probably be more expensive the way things are going:rolleyes:

yeah i'm a student, and provisional, gonna get my full license asap. Got a quote on a 1.0 ford fiesta, 2,000. It's reasonable, but what's the point in gettin a useless thing like that? I'm gonna keep shopping but screw getting a smaller car, i'd be more than happy to spend that extra 500 on a much bigger, powerful and more comfortable car.

was that quote with the student axa insurance? it readjusts itself every 3 months so it gets cheaper and cheaper the more experience and ncb you get.

A 1.0 Fiesta, didn't they stop making the 957cc Fiesta in the late 80s ?

I was getting quotes of around 3 grand also on my 1.4 focus when I was on my provisional. I ended up going for TPFT with insure.ie for 1600. Got it insured on my 22nd birthday.

Been looking at quotes for a 2 litre diesel/petrol engine lately and looks like I can get fully comp for about 1300 at 23 with full licence and 1 years ncb.

My advice is just go for TPFT for your first year and take it easy on the roads... especially if the car is only worth 2 grand it doesnt make sense to pay 3 grand for insurance.

Ring up insure.ie rather than use the website. They got me the best quote and beat their website quotes by a bit too.

Try ringing a broker, alot of companies only quote through brokers. Asgard are a company who would give you a decent quote based on your details but they only quote through brokers. They'll quote you up to a 1.6 with no bonus and on a provisional.

There was a 999cc Mk. 3 until about '91 but that still sounds wrong. Mk. 4 (1995-2002) and onwards only had 1.25, 1.3 and larger.

The bike NCB does not count unfortuntely. One of the guys here at Chill.ie was in your position three years ago. He suggested that the best thing for you to do is to get a cheap car and build up the NCB. The first year is always the most expensive but the lower the cc the cheaper generally the insurance. Age doesn’t have that much to play any more, it is mostly about the job, the NCB and car grouping.
