advice about starlings- nuisance last year, want to help them this year

Need to negotiate a situation with some starlings...

Last year was our first year in our rented house. We discovered in spring that there was a hole in the outside wall between ground and first flow... around the plastic piping leading out of the house (nice 1970's construction!)

Anyway, starlings decided to nest inside there.... and it was the most rotten stinky horrible thing we've ever smelled and it lasted for... two months? It was horrid, nauseating. It's not liveable again.

Our landlord said he was going to fill in the hole.

Thing is, I really don't want to make one less space for starlings to nest.

As it's coming spring soon, I'm concerned if they want to come back and nest again... I'd like to make a space for them.

Is there some kind of compromise?

Would they go in some kind of house?

When will they come back to start nesting? I remember it was March around that time.

    Thanks for any advice.

They will be back as night follows day if they found the nest site to their liking last year, so block the hole ASAP and don't worry they will find somewhere else. :)
