Hi All, currently starting out to build with design and planning already completed.
How much of your budget should you hold back for 1 large bathroom, a smaller one and an ensuite finished to a decent standard? Thanks in advance.

    Hi
It will all depend on what type/quality fixings you are going to install.
Will you buy B&Q? They have some excellent stock.
OR will you buy at the local hardware? They do some great deals as well, especially if you buy all your materials there for the build.
It's best to have a look around first and see what you like, but you will have very little change out of 10k.
The word HAGGLE springs to mind.

    Best of luck

10k sounds a bit much for sanitary ware. We've have one main bathroom with an electric shower. 3 ensuites with branded showers with a double basin and vanity unit in the largest ensuite.it's coming in at around 4k. That was with tubs and tiles. Double basin came from Ikea. The fixings are very expensive. The mixer unit costs the same as the bathtub.

    Sorry
    I was including labour,tiles,rad towel rails,electrical, etc.
Ikea are very good but depends on where you live,
B&Q would be my first stop.

Yeah have had a look both in the locals and in ikea and B&Q and some of the stuff is quite good. It was more all in costs i was looking for as you have above, given we're trying to do a rough budget. Thanks very much for the help all its much appreciated.

All i need now is to find a good renewables supplier/installer that can do wood pellet boilers, wood stove, solar panels, underfloor with rads, HRV with proper controls for the lot..... and all this in the snow.

    Thanks again all.

If this is for your own home I wouldn't go near B&Q. If it's for a house that you are renting out, fair enough. B&Q stuff is poor ****e as is IKEA's.

But it depends on what you want I suppose. I'd Look at the hardware stores if you ask me or plumbing, heating and bathroom specialists. To be honest it's like anything, you can spend as much or as little as wish really. €7,000 will get you through with basic but decent quality stuff.

    Hi,

Was in B&Q there earlier, herself only loves the fancy Cooke and Lewis bathrooms and there's a load of money off - 50% +15% this week- It looks like they're making fancy bathroom stuff affordable enough...

But i'm not sure, does anyone have it? is the quality good? I'don't want to buy it just because it seems like good value/

That stuff is really nice in fairness. It's a totally different product than the stuff they stock in store. We went to a few places and the salesmen were saying that the stuff in b&q was just crap chinese stuff. To be honest i've never had an issue with anything chinese. Well maybe a dodgy chicken and black bean sauce. Seriously though that cooke and lewis in notably superior than the ordinary stuff and i'd have no reservations using that range. We're sticking to suppliers that our builder uses to keep it on account.

    Hi bdoo,

I'm in exactly the same boat as yourself. We've got an excellent price from B&Q to supply all our sanitary ware, taps, showers and enclosures in Cooke & Lewis. Just need a little reasssurance from somebody before we fork out about 3k !!! I'm meeting my plumber tomorrow to run through everything before we make a decision. Just remember you need adaptors to go from metric to imperial fittings. I think B&Q do them also for €8 a pair.

Most of the stock in the bathroom section in B&Q does come from China, the quality is reasonable but nowhere near what you would get from a specialist tile and bathroom store. (Not talking about certain stores which always have a sale on, their stuff is from Brazil and is even worse than B&Q).

If you want to PM me, I can put you in contact with a specialist place in Dublin I have bought from which gave me an excellent service. And they do supply and fit if needed.
