Is it ok to cheat, if you once you account for it?

If you're on a diet...and by diet I mean I am eating 1800-2000 cals per day of normal healthy food like chicken, turkey, brown rice, lots of veggies and fruit etc, and doing 5 hours cardio per week with some p90x thrown in...

But tonight I am dying to have some chocolate and I've not had any in a week. Like seriously I would kill for a Galaxy fruit and nut and some Tayto. So that's 230 + 190 cals.

So far today I'm on 1400 cals so if I go workout for 70 min, burn my 500 cals...can I then have my treats?

Basically I'm asking if you can eat food that's not ideal once you account for it in your diet?

Some of the (imho) better diets prescribe a "free meal" (e.g. any lyle mcdonald diet) once a week as mandatory. It has excellent psychological benefits. I think free meal is a better term as you're not cheating if it's part of the diet. It's not an excuse to gorge yourself on 2 chippers and a bucket of icecream mind you, but neither do you feel the need to, since there's no sense of failure as you're not breaking the diet. :)

So enjoy your free meal, reap the benefits of it. It also may (possibly) go some way towards of normalising hormones and increasing your metabolism if you happen to be running a calorie deficit during the rest of your diet.

Yeah I went in last night and did my cross trainer session and i did an extra 15 minutes to my workout and then when I came in to watch tv I had my galaxy and a bag of skips.....and boy did I molest that chocolate bar....it was the nicest ever

I so appreciated the snack more as it had been a long time. It was a 330 calorie treat and I loved every minute of it. I'm thinking once a week from now on.

On a side note, right before or after a workout is the best time too. :) That way it won't ramp up your insulin levels (too much), usually a bad thing. Instead it'll go towards replacing your glycogen (muscle carbohydrate) reserves.

Never heard of the free meal but you defo need a treat and it is pshycological, you get bonuses at work for meeting targets (well in the good times) and I think a treat now and again is ok and defo needed!!!

Glad you enjoyed the Galaxy :)
