Sounds great. If you send an email to West Limerick AC they will stick a notice on their website. You can also ask if they could put in into their club notes in the observer and the limerick leader. dont think they would mind and would be good advertising. Advertise the hell out of it cos its a good cause. Best of luck with it.

Thanks very much for suggestions. I will do that over the weekend. I know that it is short notice for this year but hoping to have this as an annual event and to improve from year to year.

Hope to see you at the race.

maybe stick up a few posters in the locals gyms, Killeline, Askeaton etc. Might be an idea to contact the gaa, rugby and soccer club in NCW too to see if they will get a few members out.

Hey havana, is this still going ahead, havent seen anything advertised locally.

Hi. Yes this event is going ahead. The only thing that can stop it going ahead is if the roads are too icy that morning and it would be too dangerous to run. Long term forecast would suggest that conditions will be ok that morning. As you suggested, we contacted West Limerick AC and asked them to include in their notes in the local papers. It has been mentioned a few times on Limerick 95FM and West Limerick 102 and was in last weeks Observer newspaper but for some reason not in this weeks even though it was meant to be. Flyers around the town in local shops, etc.

    Liam.

30 brave souls made the trip to Rathfredagh Cheshire Home in Newcastle West on a cold, crisp morning but they were rewarded with ideal running conditions for the start that got underway at 10.10a.m.

While the quantity was lacking, the quality certainly wasnt and there were some excellent times recorded on this fast, flat 5km course including a few PBs.

Michael Carmody from Emerald AC in Limerick, a top junior in 2009, led from the start and maintained a relentless pace throughout to win comfortably in a fast 15.51 from Sean Cahillane from Dingle in 17.49.

Ann MacPhail won the women's race in an excellent 18.26 finishing in 3rd place overall.

Kevin Sherlock and Shane Scully made the long trip from Nenagh and ran together the whole way breaking the 20 minute barrier comfortably recording 19.21 and 19.22 respectively and filling 4th and 5th places.

The F40 and M40 sections were won by local athletes from West Limerick AC with Fiona Burke finishing 6th in 19.41 and Tom Fitzgerald finishing 7th in 19.53.

One remaining prize was claimed by Ailbhe Carroll from Nenagh winning the Junior ladies in 22.17.

It was a last minute idea to organise the run in conjuction with the sponsored walk on the same day and the short notice was reflected in the numbers. We hope to organise another event in a few months time and will definately give a lot more notice and advertise more extensively.

Also, thanks to John Cunniffe from Red Tag Timing for a very professional job on the chip timing.

If anyone wants the full list of results, please PM and I will forward.

    Liam.

    Hi Liam,

It was a great little run ye organised, I certainly hope ye follow up with a longer distance run later in the year. Superb organization and very professional for a 5k.

Great course and potential for a very fast 10k in the area. Hope to talk to you again and give me a shout if you need a guinea pig to run any potential new course!

    Well done to all involved.

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Thanks very much. We will be organising a 10k for sometime in April/May. I will just look at the calender and try and pick a suitable date that does not clash with any other local events. As soon as I know the route, I will let you know for the test run! Very nice meeting you on Sunday and thanks to you and your friends for supporting the race.

    Liam.
