Thoughts on running in Dublin city tonight?

I ran home last night through the city and didn't find it too bad as there was some fresh snow to use for traction.

Right now i'm looking out the window and having a very hard time trying to figure whether it's ok to run home again tonight (paths were very icey at lunchtime)

Does anyone else who runs in Dublin have an opinion on the running conditions this evening in the city??

Will be running from O'Connell Street to Stilorgan:)

    Thoughts appreciated!

I walked from South Circular Road to Ballyfermot and some parts would have been fine on others you'd have had a lot of trouble. I went out yesterday but wouldn't risk it tonight.

I was tempted to go out at lunch but went shopping instead. lethal, no go for running.

I'm debating it myself but I think it's impossible. Some parts are ok but others are very dangerous and I'd say you've a pretty high chance of doing yourself a mischief.

I went to go to the park but the roads were too bad so turned back, going to get on the bike for an hour or two tonight just to do something.

10 more days of this I hear.... I think Skis might be an option soon.

    Thanks for all the replies!

I just stepped outside with my runners on the see what it was like, and the cold fog is just adding more moisture to an already slippery situation!

Think i'll be hitting the Turbo for an hour, instead of unexpectedly hitting the pavement!!

(Also once i heard Tunney thought it was a bad night to run, my mind was essentially made up:))

    Thanks again!

Leave the carriage doors open and do some 60mts sprints, with a few hurdles ;).

I've been out round Terenure, Nutgrove, Churchtown area the last 2 nights and haven't had any problems for what that's worth to anyone in those areas. Just cycled home and the fog is making it feel pretty cold tonight, extra layer in order methinks!

According to their website, it's business as usual, no disruptions at all.

Dreadful idea. I walked from Pearse Street station to harcourt street. The footpaths are trecherous. I could barely walk on them. How can anybody contemplate running on them. I'd suggest reading Tunguska's report on the "Running on Ice" thread. Its not worth it! You will get injured, all for the sake of a few miles, which in the grand scheme of things isn't going to be the difference between a 3:59 marathon and a 4:00 marathon, or whatever your goals are.

Stick to the threadmills, or the grass if you fancy running on very hard ground (staying away from that myself to protect my ankles).

Went to park this evening. Great conditions. Powdery snow, lots of grip.

On the negative side, poorly lit and a bit eerie. Didn't feel too safe lol

Really enjoyed it, inspiring to see the park that quiet and having it to myself. Kept to main path. Can't wait to get back at the weekend.

Have to say i have conducted all my mileage this week outdoors. With the fresh snow meant it was safe but i found it has slowed my pace significantly anyone else finding this?

Did 7 miles earlier on in Artane/ Beaumont area, between 8 and 9 o'c.No trouble at all in the snow, was using footpaths in residential areas, taking it that bit slower when crossing the roads. Just using my regular runners (no hatchet jobs as yet). Not sure if the success of my run was down to the fact there was a good bit of powdery snow, but there was some icy paths aswell, which didnt seem to cause any major issues. Those same paths were problematic when walking in my work shoes earlier on in the day. Thoroughly enjoyable run (just over an hour, little bit slower than regular pace).

Also did all my running this week outdoors, I wouldn't be a fast runner and didn't find much diference in my pace but I did find the running in the snow/ice a lot harder on my lower legs, (Slight pains in calves and shins). not sure if it was the cold air or not but breathing was also more laboured then when normally running.

Don't see a link. Would be curious to see it. Live around there but didn't risk getting out tonight (went to the Park instead so there'd be some grass to run on if I was stuck).
