Could anyone recommend any good motivational/informative books on marathon training?
    Thanks

The Lore of Running is a complete guide to running and seems to have a more marathoncentric basis definitely good for any runner.
    Warning
    Will keep you busy :D

Ah no seriously it is a great book it just doesnt make very pleasent bedtime reading.

Im reading running with the buffalos atm by Chris Leer. Its an account of a season with an American university XC team and its a great read...very easy to pick up/hard to put down and when you read about some of the workouts these guys do its puts you to shame.:D

Great book if you are looking towards motivation (not marathon but still applicable) here a few:
Running with the Buffalos (US XC College team)
The Perfect mile (3 runners in pursuit of first sub 4.00 mile)
Quest for sub four (Alan Webbs only year in college) (coming back from injury great read)

These three i have found to be my favourites so far ones i wouldnt recommend with be:
    Sonia O Sullivans Biography
Irish man who ran for england (Jim Hogan story)

    Hiya,

I loved "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall and "Survival of the Fittest" by Mike Stroud.:)

Five posts without mentioning the definitive marathon bible - Advanced Marathoning by Pfitzinger & Douglas.

+1 to Running with Buffaloes - a fantastic read.

Ultramarathon man is a great read (motivational). It will give you tendencies towards bad ideas.

The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer (and this forum!) got me through my first marathon. Its got a get you round plan, a chapter per week of your training where it outlines what to think about/work on, relates stories from many of the people the authors' have coached for thier first marathon, and introduces things as they become relevant in training (eg. what to aim for with nutrition etc.). Its no lore of running, a bit drawn out at times, but overall it worked for me!
