I am sorry if this has been asked before but my son who is on JSA has been offered part time work but he is wondering how this will affect him. how many hours can he work without losing his claim or could he say work 2/3 days a week and claim for the rest. thanks for advice.

he can work 3 days a week and for each of those days he works he will have a certain amount reduced from his payment, eg. for me its 22 euro for every day i work.

I think he needs to go tell the social welfare office though because by working part time on the allowance you receive these little slips that mark off what days you work etc every day and just drop it into the office every week so they know how much to pay you.

He will also receive his payments by cheque in the post this way rather than having to go collect in the post office and he won't have to sign on every now and then either as these slips that he will fill out every week is the equivilant of signing on and these slips are just popped into a letter box in the office every week.

If he is in receipt of Jobseekers for 15 months or more and works less than 24 hours in any one week he should look into applying for the Part Time Job Incentive Scheme. The work can be spread throughout the week. The SW will pay him about Euro 124.00 per week irrespective of his earnings. The scheme lasts a year and he would have to go into the SW office every week to give a note of his hours worked and sign it in front of them and also they would send a form to his employer/s to fill and return every month. He could have more than one part time job just as long as total hours worked per week doesn't exceed 24.
