"Only" 49 out of 115 participants completed the challenge in 2009. This may have included some who just discontinued logging-on and up-dating their mileage.

The quickest/earliest completion in 2009 was March 29th (Bazman). The latest completion was December 31st (Stmochtas).

    Completions per month as follows:
    Jan - 0
    Feb - 0
    Mar - 2 :eek::eek:
    Apr - 1
    May - 4
    Jun - 7
    Jul - 4
    Aug -8
    Sep - 6
    Oct - 7
    Nov -5
    Dec - 5

August, it seems, is the most popular month for completions.

On average, 83.3 miles per month must be completed to complete 1,000 miles in the year.

    1,000 miles = 1,600KM

From the completion dates i got that the average number of days to complete the challenge was 236.375
That works out to be the 24th of August...

There was at least one post every two pages where the table or quoting got messed up. FACT

    I'm so average

Krusty and I both finished within a day or 2 of that 24/8 completion date.

Edit. While out running this morning this thread came into my head and I suddenly realised that I had made an inter cert level error in confusing mean and median. Oh, the shame I thought...I'll sort that out quickly and hopefully nobody will notice. Imagine my compounded shame when I log on and see bell curves etc all over the place. I'll lie low for a while. (cant do an embarrassed face while editing?)

Krusty and I are the median runners, both finishing within a day or 2 of that 24/8 completion date.

    On the contrary ee.
The normal (Gaussian) distribution does not apply here, where 95% of all finishers will fall equally on either side of the "so calculated" median.

    BinomialGaussian_1000.gif

This was a challenge for variousrunners with varying ability. Therefore on the law of averages (apart from Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne in March) a slow trickle of completions (eg in Mar Apr and May) should have been followed by even distribution for the following months.
    Which, more or less happened.
Thought there would have been greater numbers completing in December with the arbitrary finishing point but therre you go.
    My head hurts.

Preliminary analysis of January data indicates that this trend looks set to continue well into 2010

Based on above, 41.65 miles must be completed in a half month for the 1,000 mile target.
Today being 15th Jan*, there are (as at 16:38) 57 of the 156 participants on target for this.
    Good going :).

    * technically 12:00 noon tomorrow 16th will be half the month.....

2 athletes (and I don't use that word lightly ) managed to complete the 1,000 mile challenge before April 1st 2009.

Looks like we won't have a completions before April 1st this year though.

To be still on target for completion within the year, 250 miles should be completed by 31.3.10.
As at 14:25 today 65 of the 176 participants are on target for this.

    Keep on truckin'.

Completely missed this thread, good job eli. I wonder are their any stats for those who completed 2009 and how good or crap (in my case) their doing in 2010 :D

My vow is to finish earlier this year, I'm off to a terrible start but for those who did it last year, its a good target

We could include a category "Best recovery from 1st quarter to second quarter" - you'd surely be the winner.

As an embarrassing aside, my OH (who took up running in Feb) is currently sitting above you in the table....

My mileage is a good bit lower than last year - and yet I'm still almost at the top. Some of the big hitters from last year are not participating this time round.
