My optical drive is not reading DVDs?

Ok I got a new PC yesterday. I have it all setup perfectly now after the first day. The spec is

    Amd 3800+ 2.0GHZ Dual Core
    2 GB RAM
    nVidia GeForce 6600GT 256MB

My drive is a Sony DVD RW AW-G170A. It runs CDs fine, but last night I went to watch a DVD and when my software said "No DVD found" I became a little worried. I've just tried now to install a PC game from a DVD and no such luck. In my Computer it shows as "DVD RAM" and has no size at all (0 bytes). If someone could help I'd be very grateful

PS. My drivers etc are all up to date

Heaps of cases. I personally never got mine to work but apparently i had ALL the things that could possibly cause it by combination. The registery fix didn't do it but meh i don't use cds/dvds. Seems to work for everyone else though

No I'm on XP, but still, it's a really annoying problem
