Just finished reading this book and have been absolutely blown away by it. Really got under my skin, in a good way, and so went looking up the possibility of a film being made.

And there is (planned to be). To be written and directed by Steve Zaillian (screenplay writer for American Gangster, Hannibal, Gangs of New York and others).

Really hope they do a good job on this. The book has just become a serious contender for my favourite book of all time.

Imdb says it's in development. Hope it goes ahead.

The film adaptation of The Kite Runner was seriously underwhelming and I wouldn't hold out much hope for the movie version of this. Actually, I was underwhelmed by the book itself, truth be told.

Underwhelmed by The Kite Runner or ATSS?

I really liked The Kite Runner. But thought ATSS was an amazing piece of work.

And yeah, hear the Kite Runner movie wasn't great. Maybe with a different director this ATSS could be better. Though what I imagine will be difficult will be the representation of the characters passing through the decades. They'll need at least 3 actors for each character and plenty of make up.

    Underwhelmed with ATSS (the book).
I was initially pleased that he'd avoided the boring cliché of the poor woman trapped with the ogre husband as the guy had some sort of humanity about him, but he just devolved into a one-dimensional beast and the story followed the well-worn track of every other story I've ever read about arranged marriages in Iran/Afghanistan/Pakistan.

That's a fair point. However, for me, I don't recall becoming so emotionally engaged with a character as I did with Laila. It really touched something inside me and had me thinking about it for a few days.

Also I really like his style of writing.

But each to their own, eh. That's what's great about literature.

Very deep and touching in fairness!!

Looking forward to the film too. Each to their own as we say

I really enjoyed ATSS, it was just better than The Kite Runner. I've avoided the film adaptation of the latter, I haven't heard anything particularly good about it.
