    Hi,

Getting back into fitness and losing weight the same as every january...except this time I will make it last. How can I get back into goalkeeping without a club? Would love to get back again but out of practice and to be honest, was never excellent at all at it...will I just start playing with mates?

What age are you. If you have some mates that would go for a kick around then do it. I'm sure most lads would be only too happy to have someone that'll stand in goals and not complain about it. If its just for fun and a bit of weight loss thats your best bet. If you want to start back competitively then find out when your local club is starting bak training and try get in from the start. Starting back later than other can be a pain especially if you are unfit to start because they will have a headstart on the fitness end.

Playing for a club doesn't have to be stressful and all about commitment, most clubs with a junior team that is used for breeding players will be only too appreciative of a lad that'll turn up for matches and stand in goals. It tends to be the hardest place to get lads to want to play in so you're already at an advantage.

    Hi thegoodoutdoors,

Park Rangers a progressive and ambitious Junior Football club based in the Phoenix Park would like to invite new players to begin pre-season circuit training with us on the 18th of January. We also encourage lads that may be playing at home in their respective counties but living and working in Dublin to come and join us also.

Please note there will be a players meeting (old and new) in the Pale pub in Christchurch next Wednesday the 13th of January at 9 pm.

If you fancy doing a bit of practice & none of your mates are available I suggest you do a bit of kicking practice.

Most keepers when they practice their kickouts put the ball on the 6 and kick out. The problem with that is you don't really have a target. I recommend putting the ball out the field and kicking it over the bar.

Also don't start out the field a long way. I usually start center of the goals on the 21 and kick. That builds up the confidence and I can slowly build it up till I'm putting them over from 10yards outside the 45. The goalposts is a good target because if you aim at the blackspot you have a couple of yards of error room. Also it's much easier to tell what your true distance is. If you kick out the way it's tough to tell if it landed on the 45, a couple of yards infront or behind.

Once again lads, cheers for the replies. After the Park Rangers post there, I think I would like to get back to the position I really loved which was Defence. Will definitely give ye a look when I am more fit next year - thanks again.

Also, cheers DonkeyPokerTour for the tips, will give them a go the next day im out.
