Personally I did not bother with an aerial - if you have broadband you have RTE player.

My sis used a coat hanger on her TV for RTE...

If it is still the Irish EPG then it wont show BBC, ITV, C4, E4 etc.

If it has RTÉ One at channel 101 it is the Irish EPG.

yes, its a irish epg then..."But it can be changed to UK EPG can't it? " think this will confuse me.Is this DTT Terrestrial WB Aerial the way to go if i want the rte tv3 etc..fully installed for €180,seems ok to me

    Confused???
No offense but am I missing something?

I have Irish EPG. If I take out my Sky card I have all the BBC's, all ITV's etc, Channel 4, E4, More 4. I still have to go to "My Channels" for Channel 5. (Need UK EPG for Channel 5)

Naturally I need an indoor or outdoor aerial for RTE's, TV3 & TG4. As these are no longer available on sat box once subscription is cancelled.

I think I am right in saying, if you cancel Sky, then in a months time you remove your Sky card you will have all the free to view channels.

So to answer the OP, cancel Sky if you wish and get an aerial if required. It will save a few bob and still leave you with a reasonable number of sat channels.

You get the above mentioned channels on it and you do not need to go to Other Channels.

ok,i think i read somewhere how to do the uk epg thing, can this be reversed back to the irish epg if wish, thanks again for all your replys

the uk epg has all the bbc and utv channels
if you stick to the irish epg you have to programme some
of the channels into the "other channels" and sometimes they disappear

Just shut down the SKY box, power off at the mains and remove your card. When you power up the SKY box without a card inserted, you will probably get the default UK EPG, with BBC1 London, BBC 2 England, ITV etc. at position 101, 102, 103... - you can use this a a guide to what you'll receive with no subscription.

When you power off the box again, re-insert your Irish card and power up again, it will revert to the Irish EPG. Usually, just re-inserting your card will cause a re-load of the Irish EPG in any case.

I've just done this as i am thinking of cancelling Sky and using the box as a Freesat.
Might be a silly question but is it possible to get Sky1 without a Sky subscription?

i'm a complete novice to this but i am thinking of subscribing to sky for a year and then cancelling, what is the reason behind waiting a month to remove your sky card?
do you definitely have to do this or can you remove your card at any time in the way fat-tony has described below?

You can remove your card at any time to see what channels you'll receive when you cancel Sky. All ITV's, BBC's, Channel 4 etc.

As you pay Sky one month in advance, when you cancel Sky you'll still have Sky for one month! :)

once you contract is up if you cancel sky it will stop straight away and they'll refund in your next bill. Or at least this is what happens if you cancel, movies, sports, espn, channels packs etc.

Just to say that once you have changed your box to the UK EPG, you should do the following.

    1. Add Channel Five in other channels as this channel will still not appear on your Sky Box's EPG (It'll only be there if you have a UK FTV card)
    2. Go though the list at the link blow and add any Free to Air channels to your favourites channels.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_channels_on_Sky_Digital

When you go into the TV Menu, press the blue button and you then automatically have all the Free to Air channels in a nice order for you to go through.

To change from Irish to the UK EPG, go to sky news, press the red button to go interactive, when you do that take out your Sky card, turn off the interactive and your channel line up should be reset to the UK EPG, so no need to use the extra channels option to look at ITV2, 3, Ch5 etc
