    Hello there.

I am moving to New York to study in Manhattan which is great.

I need to find somewhere to live which is a serious headache.

    Craigslist is a nightmare.

Does anybody know anyone with an apartment in New York?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks

Manhattan? It may be best to try getting help through the school you'll be attending. Or plan on sharing.

Housing prices in NYC are notoriously expensive.

    You could try http://www.classifieds.nypost.com/housing/rent/

As InTheTrees said, Manhattan is ridiculous for rent prices. For a studio alone you would be looking at $1300 for a dingy place towards Harlem and Washington heights. Cheaper rent can be found in Brooklyn and even cheaper in Hoboken, NJ. Try to get a house share with other students by contacting your school.

    Best of Luck!

If you can't get somewhere reasonable or with students in Manhattan, keep Maspeth or Woodside in mind (Queens), nice area, reasonable rent and a short subway ride from Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan which will link you to anywhere else you want to go wherever you're studying, be it NYU, Columbia or wherever.

    Good luck!!
