Just wondering how many countries we can tick that we have golfed in between us all ? ( hope this has nt been done before )
    Just to kick it off

    1. FRANCE ...... courses quiet. resonable green fees
    2. SPAIN ( costa del sol ) ..over priced , very busy
    3. PORTUGAL ( villamoura ) lots to choose from , all price ranges,
    generally in good nick.
    4. THAILAND . average price seemed to be about € 50. courses in good
condition, big American style courses and club houses
    5. TENERIFE ( Spain technically ! ) desperate, black rocky and volcanic.
    6. SOUTH AFRICA ... lovely parkland courses and a few huge american style courses in spectacluar settings. quite reasonable green fees.

Ghana - don't bother, too little grass, green fees cheap but add in price of caddy and his lunch plus customary drink for Ghana's first pro and it adds up
Kenya - interesting, very colonial, again caddies compulsary, was told to change out of my skort as it was too short despite the pro shop selling them!
Turkey, Bodrum - new course, don't bother, waste of money see review elsewhere
Florida - superb, public courses great value others expensive but deals can be got at www.ezlinks.com

Italy (around lake garda) - don't know if I have the wrong impression but golf seems to be a bit more elitist here, our rental Yaris was parked next to nothing but expensive cars. Courses quite nice though and green fees reasonable.

Sweden - reasonable green fees, courses in good condition in the summer. Most courses (except in the south) closed for the winter. In the north though you can play all the way til the middle of the night in the summer though which is quite nice

Australia Too big a variety to generalize. From really bad public courses without a raked bunker in sight to sand based greens in the country to superb resort courses along the coast.

UK I've only played a few courses but most of them have been very good. The Belfry is a standout.

USA Again only played a few with Bethpage Black being the pick of them.

Tunisia - Dont even think about it, huge green fees for courses that are very very poor.

Barbados: Expensive, but good. Big american influence. Great views and surroundings, and very enjoyable, even though its always windy....

    Just IMO,
Sweden - good golf in the south around Malmo and Helsingborg, especially in summer.
Portugal - Vilamoura, lots of good courses, good condition, can sometimes fall down on customer service - hang your heads Laguna and Millenium.
USA (Myrtle Beach) - fantastic golf destination, getting there is a pain.
USA (Florida) - great destination and plenty of other attractions too. Orlando very good huge number of courses, Jacksonville excellent, think Sawgrass !
Spain (Tenerife) - not really a classic golf destination, two or three decent-ish tracks however.

    Forgot about:
Germany, down south near Swiss & French border, in a place called Rickenback (not sure of the spelling ?), surprisingly good & reasonable green fees.
Switzerland, just over the border from the above, a course called Wylihof. Very long, c7,300yds, worth playing though.
France, just south of Strasbourg, a course called Le Kempferhof, one of the best courses I've ever played - seriously.

I was on holidays a few years ago, staying with a mate and we played the 3 courses above on 3 consective days !:)

Also forgot Scotland - been lucky enough to have really enjoyed a few games in Gleneagles. My very first game on a golf course after 6 lessons was the Queens Course with a guy who played off 4. God help him he really had the patience of a saint and the game was so enjoyable it focused my mind on practising really hard and being able to play to my handicap. 2 years later I went back again and brought in huge score. I love Gleneagles and would go there anytime.

Yes it can be expensive, however, if you keep an eye on their website they do seasonal deals. I would highly recommend a break with your partner, even if he/she doesn't play golf there are plenty of alternatives to keep them happy.

+1 on Myrtle Beach, what a destination !! Brilliant and well worth the trip.

You can add another admireer of Myrtle Beach. Beautiful weather and golf courses-cant go wrong. However the best place is Colorado-unreal- so far above sea level the ball flies miles and it makes you feel like a pro the distances the ball travels. Highly recommend the place.

Slightly off topic, apologies, but whats the best time of year to visit Colorado for golf ? We've a group of about 30 that go away every October and are scouting around for this year's venue.

well to be honest the weather is so unpredictable due to the rocky mountains. one minute its roasting with blue skies and then its a sudden hour long thunder storm in afternoon. it was september when i was there and had to play very early in the morning to avoid the extreme heat and these eventual thundertorms.

Thanks for the reply, something to bear in mind so. Probably rules it out for us, weather tends to be a big attraction when going away in October :)
