    Chorus old guide
NTL old guide and two UPC guides.

No idea sorry I have the blue UPC boxes.

The purple boxes are rubbish you should ask for one of the newer ones.

The Blue one runs different software and they are about 100 times more stable.
The blue one is a UPC box the purple one is an old NTL box.

The old NTL boxes do not have the processing power to run the blue UPC guide that is why you are stuck with the crappy purple guide.

For me ESPN & ESPN America don't appear if you +/- through channels. But, if you hit "Ok" (to bring up the programme info) and then +/- through channels, you can see and select them.

(I should have both channels, but haven't got them yet either).

If you are using a UPC box going through the channels skips channels to which you do not subscribe.

If you have just had a channel added it will still say not subscribed in the info bar.

You need to reload the guide by doing a channel scan.

Thanks for the info, I wondered as much.

I just tried doing a channel scan (didn't even know I could do that) and two things changed. Now, ESPN & ESPN America appear when I do channel +/-; and the info bar shows the programme info rather than a "you are not subscribed" message - though I'm still not getting the channels. Still, that's a step closer, thanks! :)

    Hi who_me,

Call 1908 and press 1 2 2 2 and tell them you can't get the ESPN's. Most likely they'll tell you to remove the power plug and reinserting it after they have typed something in their system. Worked for me :-) Just make sure you are on the right subscription level ;)

Also, all of my unsubscribed channels pop up when I use the channel +/- chananger on the right side of the remote (have the silver UPC DVR) which is very annoying :(

I find the menu change very very slow compared to my Pace Sky+HD box which is ULTRA fast, but still faster than the old Pace NTL boxes.

Thanks for the call suggestion! Edit - tech support stops at 10, not 8 as I previously mentioned. Oops.
Funnily enough, I've noticed my box reverts after doing the channel scan I mentioned above. After the channel scan, I could see the ESPN listings and the channels appear* when flicking up and down; but a few minutes later, they're gone again. Tried again, same thing happened.

It seems the HD STBs have some kind of timed process that removes any unsubscribed channels that are appearing after a scan.

Probably different dependent on which set-top-box you have. On mine, you hit the Menu button on the remote, then go into Settings, then Network Search (if I recall correctly).

UPC ("Blue guide") ones are available to ex-NTL customers who take the PVR service, or whose boxes have been replaced (Pace Di40xx boxes in particular are being replaced with UPC boxes.)

Bumping this thread as it seemed related. I have two Pace boxes in my house in Galway, I have all the usual problems, boxes locking up changing channels, "you have not subscribed to this channel" "your smartcard appears to be missing" appearing without warning etc. I put a call into UPC to see if I could get new boxes out of them, then engineer came out, usual guff, I asked if I could have the box replaced, when I asked about new boxes as described on this thread he sang dumb, and replaced the Pace box in the living room with what appeared to be a brand new (but identical to my old one) Pace box straight out of the plastic wrapping with a UPC sticker on the front. What gives? I thought they were phasing these out?

Do I need to get their PVR offering to get one of the new boxes? I don't really want this as firstly I would have to pay more, and secondly I have a PC running N-PVR in combination with an EGreat NMT so I don't need their PVR solution. Problem is the crappy Pace box is too unreliable for recording things, you can never tell when the box is going to throw a wobbler in the middle of recording.

It could be a reconditioned box, or they may be rolling out a new pace box. I am pasting an article from digital spy, last year, which may be relevant, although I haven't heard anything since:

UPC, Pace to launch green HD receiver

Friday, September 18 2009, 11:29 BST By Andrew Laughlin, Technology Reporter

    160x120_trees.jpg

UPC Broadband has partnered with Pace for the upcoming launch of a new high definition set top box which delivers strong environmental performance.

Designed specifically for UPC, the new HD receiver will be rolled out across the cable operator's footprint of nine European countries, including Ireland, starting from early 2010.

Adhering to Pace's recently-announced low environmental initiative, the box will be produced with a minimal amount of hazardous materials.

It will also be packaged in 100% recyclable materials and deliver low power consumption, including a stand-by consumption of less than one watt and a power efficient CPU.

UPC chief technology officer Eric Lennon said: "We are very pleased that Pace, as a long-term partner to UPC, has continued to develop set top boxes in line with our requirements including those for reducing power consumption levels of our digital TV service.

"This is increasingly important as we launch more sophisticated services such as high definition and work to achieve the right balance between technical innovation and environmental performance."

Pace president Mathias Hautefort added: "Pace has consistently gone beyond the standards, always meeting legislative targets in advance of industry deadlines, to give our customers complete confidence that their products are not just at the leading edge of digital TV technology, but also ahead of the curve in environmental performance.

"We believe our products are among the most energy efficient consumer electronics products in the world, but our environmental commitment is not limited to set top box performance. We look forward to our future work with UPC as we continue to lead in the design and development of low environmental impact set top boxes."

Yorkshire-based manufacturer Pace also recently showcased a new hybrid receiver with a fully-integrated 3D interface and embedded 3D graphics chipset at IBC 2009 in Amsterdam
