I'm am nearly finished my 1 year of JSB, and have been told, from a friend of mine, that I should sign on for stamps, even though I won't qualify for JSA.

Can somebody explain why this is necessary, and where I'd find more information about it.

to cut a long detailed explanation short (long version found on citizens information).. it means that you'd get your stamps paid so if you needed to rely on your prsi contributions from 2010 (ie if claiming something in 2012) youd be able to claim....

... or so ive been informed!

That sounds right. When going in to SW to make application for signing for stamps you should bring evidence with you of recent job searches, replies etc. When you are signing for stamps only you only have to do it a few times a year and not monthly as far as I know.

Replies? That's not a common courtesy afforded to applicants these days unfortunately. Thanks for the help gents.

I've found the reason I didn't find anything initially, it is "Credits" and not "Stamps" I'll be claiming for.

Here is the relevant Revenue.ie page for those seeking more information.
