Sky + problems and changing to free to view

    Hi,

I have a sky + installation and contract. Since beginning of December, I have had "no satellite signal being received" with number 29 coming up on the notice. Called sky, and they tell me I need to get an installation guy to check out my system, as from their diagnostics, my sky box is fine!!!!

On the other hand, I now find life has not actually come to a crashing halt, after 5 weeks including christmass of no sky reception.

So, I am now of a mind to cancel my sky subscription altogether and use my sky kit, to go free to view.

Anybody see a problem with doing that, and what do I need to do to convert to free to view AND get rid of the number 29 no signal being received issue.

    TIA

    R1

If they supplied the box and dish with your present contract then they will be looking at having them returned if you cancel your sub now.

No. I own the dish and box as I paid for them seperately at sign up over 2 years ago. My understanding is I am am now free to cancel my subscription at any time I believe after 12 months from contract start. I am over 2 years so technically I can cancel.
In fact I am going to do that before next direct debit date.
I just need to know what do I have to do to get free channels with my existing equipment. Also need to know if the number 29 no signal being received is truly a system installation problem (like moved dish, or perhaps water ingress at cable termination at dish) OR if it is actually related to a problem with my sky + box.

I have no idea about the no. 29 issue but Im sure some of the other guys here will know.

As to the other channels you can simply boot up the box without the card or if that fails go to Sky news and then press interactive and when you are in the interactive mode just remove your card (some people say that it should be inserted again upside down) and then press the TV guide button. It will take about a minute but will then display the English EPG.

Just to note that you wont get any of the Irish channels without a sub.

Do you get "no satellite signal being received" on all channels or just some?

    The problem could be.
    1. The wind or something moved your dish so it does not point in the right direction any more.
    2. The LNB (the yolk on the dish which collects the signal) is broken.
    3. There is a problem with the cables coming from the dish to your box.
    4. The box itself is broken.

    I would try the following:

    1. Switch off and unplug your Sky box.
You should have two cables which come from the dish into the back of your Sky box, swap them around.
Start up the Sky box again and see if that helps.
If it does, it means there is a problem with one of your cables.

    2. Get a loan of someone else's Sky box and try it at your house or bring your box to their house and try it. This will tell you whether or not the box is the problem.

If it turns out the box is the problem, you could cancel Sky and get a Freesat Humax FOXSAT HDR.
If you phone up and ask to cancel sometimes they offer to send an installer around to fix it for free.

i had sky problems similar to that and called them up and told them and they said i needed a service call which was approx €65 or so,i asked her how much to cancel and after a while said she would do me a free call out. if you google exactly what fault comes up on your tv you will get to the bottom of your problem.

Someone found a solution to the same problem here.

Not sure if it will sort the problem out but worth a go. :)
