I have a voucher for Aer Lingus. I know a floor I'll probably be able to sleep on. Its almost a plan. All depends on the cost obviously but I'll do my best to get over. Especially considering me and Mr. Massenburg's recent disagreement.;)

I'd rather be going to the AES convention.

    Apparently they're hiring a band !

So this will be a paid event, I've not heard how much yet.

The AES thing is on at the same time though isn't it? Sounds like it could be a good week to be in London. Maybe go Tuesday, return Thursday night/Friday morning.

Oh right ... which might explain why they're doing it that week ... I hadn't kopped that.

    Thanks for the heads up,

    I've registered.

I heard today on the grapevine it could be £350 to attend !

    Ouch:(

I heard that from a lad who knows a chap .....

They are using a full band and I guess the studio don't come for free. That's a pity, though as it will keep away those who might benefit from it the most, and will probably be full of middle aged music biz dyckheads like myself ...

It's being run by Gary from Manley/Massenburg who some of you met at our show in Middlewalk, by the way.

Well balls to that then if thats the case. Not a hope in hell of me being able to afford that.

As I say it's hearsay at the moment ...

I'm sure there are cost but making it that price will, of course, scare off most guys .

Sure that's nearly the price of an SSL mic pre !

Well the two days being educated in British Grove would probably be of more use to me right now than any new pre!

I've registered and who knows, if the price is right and I can think of other stuff to do in London at the time then I'll spin over.

    Hi Paul,
it's asking me for your credit card details :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,790 ✭✭✭PaulBrewer

    395 of the Queen's Pounds PLUS Vat = £462.15 = Euro 520.96 = Holy Feck !

I'm guessing they actually mix your track for that ?

So, out of interest, I dropped a note to the organisers questioning the price and suggesting it would likely be beyond the budget of many who could most benefit ... blaa, blaa, blaa, (yea thinking of all the poor ansgty metal kids again) and so on.

Anyway, they've come back and asked how much I think would be a fair price. There will be 30 paying people they hope.

What do you think? How much would you pay for what they are offering? I'd have guessed around £200.

At the same time, I'd probably prefer to attend something similar over here, decent studio, folks who know what they are doing, nice lunch, comfy chairs ... you know the score

I think at that price the demographic attending ..... Middle aged middle class overweight baldie pricks .....

    Oh, like me :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,245 ✭✭✭old gregg

you see Paul, I suggested to them that all they'd get at that price was middle aged folks (like us ... even if my hair is nearly down to my waist and not a sign of baldness :p) and they said that they expect to see mostly young starting out musicians.

Dunno, if there was interest I'd offer them a grand for 5 or 6 or 7 of us to go and see if they bite.

    I think you're right O.G.

I've just dropped a line to Gary at Sable saying as much.

Did you meet him down at our do in Peter's Middlewalk ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,245 ✭✭✭old gregg

I probably did meet Gary at Peter's most excellent Middlewalk.

Personally I'd not be too pushed about the location on offer and even the two guys from the USA giving the workshops could be replaced in my mind by top notch folks from Ireland/UK/wherever. I'd pay a fair price for a great 2 day event in any quality Irish studio.

    Interesting .....

    Perhaps I'll organise one.

groovy. I'd go for the learning experience and just to get out and meet a few new folks. Throw in a good lunch and a chance to party once we hit beer o'clock and I'll go anywhere
