Sorry if this has been posted before :o

Can anyone recommend some good sites for buying runners online? I'm looking for a new pair of Kayanos, at a good price!

    Thanks.

Found Start Fitness very good for shoes and clothing, £10 postage.

forrunnersbyrunners - have ordered twice and have found them very good.

I usually get my stuff from wiggle, they have a massive selection of equipment for running, cycling and swimming but I found that they don't have much stock levels. They have a good selection of runners but what I found lot of times was I'd see something I liked only to find out that they didn't have it in my size. But other than this I've found their service to be top notch, and very fast dispatch times. I actually bought my last pair of runners from amazon.

Have always used pro-direct myself and found them excellent. Well priced, low cost postage and very quick delivery plus a free tshirt!

Bought the Kayano 16 from them last week, €129 incl delivery. If you'd rather go for something little cheaper they're doing Kayano 15's for about €67 at the moment. (£59.99).
Cant go wrong with that price.

Another vote for Wiggle here, it's where I got my last pair from.

Wiggle takes all my money, with a little bit thrown CRCs way. Got a pair of trail runners with some running and sealskinz socks the last week and they arrived Monday.

Thanks a mill for all the suggestions! I'm off to have a look now :D

    - thanks for that Lawros Tache, that's a really good price!

I usually buy from wiggle mostly because I get a 12% discount for the disgraceful amount of money I spend there. I've used start fitness and sweatshop in the past too.

Prodirect have black and PINK lunarglides. I have to get me a pair of them. :D

Don't assume that online is necessarily cheaper for shoes. I was buying shoes recently and after doing a search online I got them for almost the same price in one of the local technical running stores, who'd I'd much rather support than UK-based online retailers.

Oh I agree with you, and I would much rather support local busines, but after looking in local stores, I can't get what I'm looking for, and my budget, sadly, is tight :(

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

Well there is a much bigger selection online isn't there. Saucony are very hard to get here as are brooks and any decent Nike ones. Unless you wear one of the mainstream models it's very hard to get what you're looking for in Dublin.

Maybe I’m a bit naïve, or foolish with my few euro but I wouldn’t even consider buying sports gear online.

I get Bike(s) from Staggs, Lucan, Tri gear from Wheelworx, Runners from Amphibian King and appreciate dealing with knowledgeable athletes who partake in the same events as me around the country (although they’re generally finished long before me :) )
Basically they give something back, they sponsor events, they employ/ sponsor athletes etc.

So for me it’s not all about price, it’s about value.

(sorry RubyK, i know i'm not answering what was a simple question)

i buy from www.exercisedirect.co.uk and they are a pleasure to deal with.

Have bought runners, t shirts, gloves, Polar heart moniter etc.

    Fast delivery and great communication.

Good for you jb-ski! Shop local folks. If we buy everything from .co.uk there'll be no local knowledge left in a few years.

Some (only some, I'm sure there are plenty more) shops that sell online:

    www.johnbuckleysports.com - Cork

    www.mickdowlingsportsworld.ie - Dulbin

    www.wheelworxbikes.com - Dublin

    www.amphibianking.ie - Bray

I'm sure between them all one of them will offer a pair of runners at a decent price.

I do concur with the belief that we should, where possible, support local business particulalry those who partake in and support local events. However, when you are facing the choice of paying €150 for a pair of Kayanos locally as opposed to a pair from Start Fitness for €100-110 including postage it is hard to justify paying almost 50% more on a point of principle. Whats more, if you go for an older model or even an older colour scheme of the current model you can get even bigger savings. I have bought loads of gear from StartFitness. When you know what you want thats fine althouigh I think someone who goes into a shop and takes up a sales advisors time trying different styles and sizes only to go online later to buy the item is crossing the line slightly.

I agree in principle, but the product range often just doesn't compare, and that to me is quite important. It's not just coz it's cheaper.

I usually buy most things online, but with a new sports shop opened in my home village (big plug for LE Spóirt :D), I found it difficult not to buy my last pair of Kayanos there, despite the fact that they cost 150 euro. That said, I intend to buy a pair or two of discount Kayano 15's online shortly...

It took me just 5 mins to check each of the 4 sites above for Kayanos and only one site sells them for 150. Most of them have them for 110 to 120. The UK may be cheaper than those 4 sites but look around for other .ie sites. I'm sure there are more than I've mentioned and more than likely better bargains too. Anybody know good Irish sites for running gear?

    www.runireland.com

is another local site that sells running shoes. Any more?

I've bought an awful lot of gear from The Edge Sports, in Cork City. It's a good shop, if a little pricey, but the staff are knowledgeable and friendly so I think it's worth paying that little bit extra. However, lately I've spent a lot of money at Wiggle as times are hard and their service and prices are really good. I also used Pro-Direct for a pair of spikes I bought before Christmas - they were priced well and I got a free technical t-shirt, so I'd also recommend them. :)

No Kayanos, but good sale in Amphibian King.

    Brooks GTS 10 for €76!

+1 but cost does come into it.

Over Christmas I got a new pair of Kayanos, running leggings, 3 pairs of shorts, 2 running tops, 2 pairs of socks and a pair of gloves for 147 euro including postage from UK. The Kayanos were 150 in my local (it's a chain store though) sports shop.

If I need/receive advice regarding a pair of shoes from a local store I will always purchase them from him instead of buying online but when you know what you want it's very hard to argue with price !

Sure didn't our marvelous government tell us to shop around a few years back when they were too busy to bother their holes introducing legislation to help competition

I tried to get some inov-8s online before Christmas. The Irish websites either didn't have them or they weren't price competitive. Used amazon.co.uk in the end.

Hi Lawros, do you have a link for those Kayano 15s, checked out the pro-direct website but can only see the 16s. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong section or website though as there seems to be diff sites for running/soccer/rugby etc or maybe they're sold out. Any other links for cheap kayano 15s or 16s. Think Elverys store in Dublin have a sale on the 16s at present and they're selling for around 120. Was in Arnotts at the weekend and they're not offering any discount on the 16s and selling them for 140. Champion Sports have the 16s for 125 in the sale though they said.
    Thanks

After much searching, I've got myself a pair of Kayanos 16's through elverys.ie, for €119 - with free postage.

Pretty happy with that, as womens size 6's seem to sell out really quickly.

I use this shop, get them shipped to my bro in the States and he posts them over so I don't know how much the store charges for international shipping.

Special today happens to be Womens Kayano 15s for $70 (€48) before shipping.

    Hey,

Hope you had Kayano's before and you are sure that they are suitable for you. There is a slight difference between Kayano15 and Kayano16. As I was happy with the 15 I got them again online at Amphibianking they cost me 104,5 including postage, but they also have the 16 as well!

Also agree with jb-ski to support local businesses, as they paying tax here not UK/US.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭RubyK

Thanks shan001, I have a pair of 15's that have served me well :D

Got the 16's in Elverys, so doing my bit in supporting Irish business ;).

Looking foward to trying them out, I should have them tomorrow.

Any EU based business that is shipping here over €xxxxx a year will be paying Irish Vat as well. Cannot remember what the threshold is, but it' not a huge number so I'd expect all of those UK based online stores to have to be Irish VAT registered at least.

Still not quite as good for the Irish economy as a proper local store, but your money is not completely disappearing abroad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,191 ✭✭✭Dr_Colossus

Bought a pair of Asics Kayano 16s in Elverys also for 119. Couldn't see them anywhere online for significantly cheaper than that when you factor in postage etc so bought local.
Couldn't find the Kayano 15s in my size in either local stores or online either for much cheaper so forked out for the 16s. Just have to put in the miles now.

Give http://www.trisports.ie/ a shot, Irish online retailer. I bought off them before xmas. Good prices on Kayano's and efficient to deal with.
