    Hey guys!!

Has anyone ever bought from this place??

    http://www.shallowreef.ie/home/

    or

    www.surfboards.ie??

I'm in the process of downgrading from my beloved 8'6 and was thinking of getting a 6'8 or 7'2 fish or thruster??

Any advice or info would be greatly appriciated.

The shallow reef boards are made in Chian, the other ones probably are too. They're cheap but you get what you pay for. I'd say that they are getting the short boards for under 150 so why not give them a call and make a low offer or get a leash thrown in.

As for Chinees boards they don't have a great rep.

Check out westbay surfboards in Portrush. Excellent boards. Good exchange rate too v sterling so work out alot cheaper than anything decent in the shops here or even Powersource boards you're going to save bout €100 minimum for a custom board. www.westbaysurfboards.co.uk

Ya I actually saw them earlier as well as JP surfboards

    http://www.jpsurfboards.co.uk

there's definately no shortage of choice of brands out there so i dont think i'm going to just rush in just yet!! I dont want to be buying again in a couple of month!!

(although i probably will be in the market again in a few months, even if i buy the perfect board.... damn my obsession with new shiny things....)

    How about this?

    http://www.aorsurfboards.com/

There was a nice interview with Al in Tonnta this month if you can get a copy.
Now I am bias, cos he's a mate, but I know a number of lads who are riding his boards and can't fault them and two in particular that are going for second boards off him their so impressed with what they got.

Thanks for that, i just fired off a vague email to him!! Plus he's only back the road from me!! Didnt even know that!

I've been riding one of Al's boards for a few months now and I'll be honest with you it's nothing short of amazing. I went for a Perimeter String board and the pop out of turns on it continues to amaze me.

He really knows his stuff and he's an absolute gent to deal with. I won't be going anywhere else for boards in future.

It's worth having a chat with him at least, he'll be the best guy to talk to as he knows the local surf very well.

neither of the original sites listed supply "Irish" boards, and indeed i would be surprised if anyone Irish is involved in their sale and marketing, despite the domian names...
def try and support your local shaper... if you're up NW way, both Conor @ Waxon (just outsite Sligo town) and Mark @ PowerSource (in Kinlough, just outside Bundoran) are easily accessible...

both guys have plenty of everything - and can offer everything from advise on picking up an off-the-shelf stock board, to shaping you a unique board of your own...

much better option than a board mass-produced 1000's of miles from the sea in China, in a soul-less facility that could turn around and start making CDs or handbags as easily in the morning depending on what they think the current fad is...
though Chinese option is cheaper - there won't be all that much in it, and as well it's a false economy - "buy cheap, buy twice..."

    just my 2c...

I'd also consider Glide Surfboards, got a fish from him last year and its an absolute gem :D

I also get all my boards repaired by him these days:)

Would recommend Powersource. Had a series of email conversations with Mark before deciding on what best suited me. Result was best board I've had in a long, long time

is it correct to say that the powersource surfboards are made in china and sold here and the MMD (mark maguire designs) ones are shaped by mark in leitrim? i got a custom off him a few years back it's a cracking board i love it, got an off the shelf one afterwards and it's not great to be honest, just ok. someone told me powersource brand was bought out

Westbay highly recommended . Although looking to increase the pace a little. Anyone want to swap a 7'2 for a shorter board?

I'd nearly take a spin up for look. Toying with the idea of getting one shaped at the moment.
