Best time to postpone driving test?

    Got driving test letter yesterday - test for 1 February. Due to adverse weather conditions and work commitments I have had no chance to practice / take lessons over the last month. Chances are that I won't be ready by the due date. Ideally would like to sit the test in mid March or April which will give me plenty time to practice.

    I see that you must give ten days notice before deferring the test. I presume then that I should wait until say 20 / 21 January before requesting a postponement - as opposed to doing it now?

    Do you have any say in when you'd like a new date - i.e. could I say to them to give me a date in April?
