    :eek:Hey all.

A few days ago my laptop started freezing about 5-10min after startup. I have spent three days, scanning, and running new antivirus/malware applications to try to resolve this issue but with not result.

I took it to me local PC shop but they could not get any good out of it. Part of my attempt to repair it was to use "msconfig" and to stop some of the startup services to see if something there was causing the problem.

Now I seem to have stopped all the important services and cannot get them back running.

I have come to terms with the fact I need to recovery the laptop with my toshiba recovery CD. Before I do this I need to get some very important files from the laptop but this is where my problem is.

In order to copy my important files from my laptop to another laptop I have a8GB USB memory stick. But my laptop will no-longer install the USB memory stick as all the services are market "Disabled". The "Device Manager" has no devices in it.

Can anyone help me get this USB Memory stick working so I can copy my files and then recover the laptop.

    I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks

Can you still access the internet and a DVD burner ?

If so,download Ubuntu and burn the image to a DVD,then, when you boot up into Ubuntu (you dont have to install it),you should see your C: drive. You can then extract your data off that.

Did you try booting in safe mode ?

    Hey Deano,

Thanks for the responce. Unfortunitally no internet access. I've been in safe mode too logged in as the administrator.

It seems that the USB services and devices are disabled or something. The weird think is I have a 1gb memort stick which was already installed which is working. But some of the files I need are above 1gb!!

Any suggestions on how I can get the USB services and devices back working??

    Thanks for the help!

is your dvd drive still working and burner software, just burn the files onto a dvd... or you could get a hard drive reader, i have one here, extremely useful, has a power connection and and then all the fittings for the different hard drives with a usb connection, just copy directly to your other laptop, they're cheap on eBay if you're not in too much of a rush
