My dad said they were aying on the radio that the DoE were discussing it.
But is it all the schools/none of the schools kinda thing or just particular schools?
If its only select ones not a chance i'll get off :( We've had no snow and compared to mst the country, light frost/ice.

I'd love the extra days off though!!

Think they have decided its up to Board of Management whether to close til 11th r re-open Thursday so it says on DOE website!!!

Doubt our school will be closed:( but we don't start until Friday anyway (Parent -Teacher meeting and a staff meeting on Thursday). We only have a light dusting of snow.

I'm praying that there is something wrong with the heating though.Even if there is, that still probably won't stop them because they always turn off the heating at 11 o' clock break, even when we still haven't heated up at all! We usually end up begging if we can put on our coats and scarves because we are always so cold.I suppose that's what you get for trying to heat a like 130(?) year old, 4 storey building!

ya but we should be off till the monday anyway whats the point of going in for two days? and they'll regret if someone gets hurt on the grounds cause of insurance

I have no school tomorrow! :D

Was not looking forward to French first thing! :(

From what I've heard from the radio, a lot of schools are taking Thurs and Fri off, in the south east .

I can't imagine the teachers genuinely wanting to go into school when loads of others are taking the day off anyway!

Hope the rest of you get your day off. :)

I had tomorrow off anyway but I really want to have Friday off aswell.Doubtful though, we have hardly any snow, hopefully it'll depend on how may people will be more than likely unable to get in for school, or maybe the heating won't work

*crosses fingers, toes, everything* (more from cold though than hope:D)

batt o keefe just announced all schools closed until next Thursday 14th Jan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭manutd

All national and secondary schools are to remain closed until Thursday 14 January, Minister for Education Batt O'Keefe announced this afternoon.

The decision was taken following a review of the weekend weather forecast at a meeting of the Government's Emergency Response Committee.

The Minister accepts that the closures will cause inconvenience but said the safety of student, teachers and parents was more important.

The decision comes amid growing fears among school principals and boards of management about the impact of further severe weather on school communities. It will be widely welcomed by them.

Schools have been telling RTÉ News of strong health and safety concerns, centred on footpaths and roads in their wider areas.

A decision on whether Ireland's 4,000 schools will remain closed or re-opened later next week will be made following a review by the Committee at a meeting on Tuesday.
