Surprised there isn't a thread on this already - perhaps there is and I've missed it? Anyway, 2009 may have been a depressing year for Ireland in some quarters, but it was pretty spectacular in terms of music. Any thoughts on albums of the year?

Here's my list of Top 25 albums of 2009. As with all 'best of' lists, this is wholly subjective and open to scorn/ridicule/approval/argument.

    1. The Duckworth Lewis Method - The Duckworth Lewis Method
    2. With All Your Friends - 8 Ball
    3. Blue Lights on the Runway - Bell X1
    4. Proper Order - The Pale
    5. Human Nature - Alphastates
    6. Night Horses - Super Extra Bonus Party
    7. Strict Joy - The Swell Season
    8. We Love You Dark Matter - Dark Room Notes
    9. I've Been Here For Ages - Pocket Promise
    10. The Ghost Country - Clive Barnes
    11. The Victory Dance - David Geraghty
    12. After The WEdding - Sanzkrit
    13. Pages - Julie Feeney
    14. You Can Make Sound - Delorentos
    15. Sound to Light - Channel One
    16. How The Light Gets In - Holy Roman Army
    17. The Beautiful Untrue - Jerry Fish & The Mudbug Club
    18. European Son - Beautiful Unit
    19. Monsters - Herm
    20. The Nightsaver - David Kitt
    21. Over the Sun - Rodina
    22. Trauma Themes Idiot Times - Jinx Lennon
    23. We Dream In Algebra- Codes
    24. Democracy of One - Colin Devlin
    25. New Boots - Wallis Bird

Julie Feeney's 'pages' is my number 1. She is a genius. :)

I really hope Codes make it big, they sound really promising!

Both 'Pages' and 'Trees Dream in Algebra' are savage albums. I haven't seen Julie's live show, but she came on the radio programme a while back and did a brilliant cover of Leonard Cohen's 'A Thousand Kisses Deep'.

I'm currently in the process of rebuilding the show's website (www.irishbeats.net). When that's finished, I'll publish a slew of podcasts from 2009, which will include the Julie Feeney interview.

Feeney is unreal live, literally people leave spell bound. I have seen her live 3 times. Highly recommended. Rumour has it she is playing the National Concert Hall after her stint in the States.

Best of luck with the website, sounds like it will be a class resource. "Trees Dream in Algebra" is def on my top ten albums of the year too!
