    Hey guys,

I am looking for a good 3d space shooter game, not a side scrolling one. I haven't played a good one in ages. Does anybody remember colony wars on the ps1? that was a great game, and rouge squadron on the gamecube was also excellent. Is the genre dead?

The genre is pretty much dead in the water on the consoles unfortunately. There's a few on the PC though.

Do you have a 360? if so, there's Project Sylpheed. Can't think of anything else at all really in the last few years.

Project Sylpheed isn't that great though. It's very arcadey. You are by far the most powerful craft in the level. I much prefer dogfights against similar craft or against the odds.

I really loved the old star wars rogue squadron. Anyone know if theres anything similar on ps3?

I do have a 360 actually. Just looking on Wiki about that game, it looks a bit pants tbh, but keep the suggestions coming :) cheers for replying, because if not, I never would have seen this pic of the game on wiki ;)

I played it myself for a few minutes a year or two ago, not my cup of tea either. You could try the demo maybe, you never know.

Unfortunately PC seems to be where it's at for this stuff. The classic xwing series (xwing alliance I think was the last) are well worth checking out if can find a copy and need a very modest PC to run. Otherwise games like X3, or FreeSpace 2 (for which there's a lot of mod's been written) would be good to check out.

Actually the largest, and 'free-est' one would be vega strike: http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/

Good luck - know these aren't ps3 unfortunately - but yeah dosn't seem to be a big genre on the platform :( - still, happy to have gotten one.

There are rumours the next WarHawk game will be set in space... other than that, I don't know.
