Car Insurance is up for renewal this month. I have been looking to get quotes and some websites ask for Car Reg. When I enter it it comes up saying sorry cannot quote at the moment. It was starting to annoy me when I tried nononsense.ie. It happened again, but I noticed a live chat for help. Turns out according to the bloke I was talking to, that they have me down as not having a valid NCT Cert on whatever system they use to check these things. Problem is on my dash is a completely valid Cert up to June 2010.

Has this happened to people before. Anyone know how I'd go about rectifying this. Tried getting onto the NCT site for information but its down.

just go onto carzone, see a car the same as yours and use that reg for the quote.

Could do that I suppose to get a full quote, although eventually i'd have to give them my proper one or else I'd assume it would be null and void as a policy.

But what system do they use?

I wouldn't want it to be on the one that the Garda would use as it would show me as not having a valid NCT when I do

Got onto NCT about this and they told me that on their system and the shannon one that my Cert is valid................so where could an insurance company be getting the wrong information from?

I has a similar situation getting insurance for my car.

123, FBD etc would not process an online quote. Called them up. The car was showing as not being taxed here. I assured them I had the tax disc (never had any tax issues). FBD gave me a quote over the phone, which I accepted (€400 cheaper I might add).

You could also offer to fax/email a copy of your NCT disk.

Failing that, ask for a fax from the NCT showing the cars details.

Yeah i've had the same issue with online quotes, phone call is the only option sometimes!

really strange thing, last time i got my car insurance, it was actually cheaper to have a woman driver on it. so if you have a woman hanging around to put on it, then do! ;)
think i saved around 50 quid or so, for some bizarre reason... don't really understand the logic of it!

Also, i did the hibernian driver day course thing a few years ago (didn't cost anything, just took a day off work) and reckon i have saved at least a grand or more in the space of a couple of years insurance. I'm a young male and every other quote since then has literally been hundreds more each year. Could be worth the hassle if you feel like you're being screwed with insurance costs!
