    Hi all,

I'm looking to do some running on the Curragh to save my legs. Has anyone done it and is there a good route and where should i start from.

I'm also looking at Emo in Laois beside me but would like a few options.

Also should i use my normal footwear or get trail runners for it ??

theres a nice loop from the first carpark at the roundabout.park up an head towards the kildare direction an keep the fmotorway on yir right for about two miles and the start going left towards the camp and down a horse track get to xroads at rising sun pub and head back into curragh camp and back to yir car, bout 6/7 miles .or you could do any amount of out and backs from the car park....normal shoes wiil do ya ,but after the snow....

Thanks for the info. I think when the evenings get longer it would be perfect for one of my midweek runs ( which are between 6 and 8 miles )

    howyra elvis jones,

i train regularly in emo park. a lovely place to although the grass can be very long at times and some parts are very uneven under foot. but 99% of it is perfect. I do two different runs there.

The first is mostly all on the grass. I usually start from the carpark and head down the hill on the grass keeping the hedge on my right, just continue keeping the hedge on your right. i usually go through the gate were the few houses are on your left and into a back field, round that and back through the gate and hug the hedge again. when you reach the lake its out back, then again continue hugging the hedge until your back at the carpark. I would say its around five mile. normal runners are fine. yoou can make it longer by looping more fields.

The second is mostly on trails and some road. I get a 10 mile and a 12mile run out of it. I start from the back entrance of emo, take the first trail on my right and follow it. you have to link up different trails as there is no set loop. when i first discovered these trails i just ran and saw were the trail took me. you'll prob have to do the same to get a loop to suit you and to get your bearings. For me I start out on a loop but have to run back on myself which adds around five mile to my run. The best way to find your way is to get lost!

    Good luck.

14KM THE CURRAGH CAMP - started in the curragh camp, and just tried to follow a loop back.
