    Folks,

I was considering registering for this and I was wondering is it worth the €40 admission fee. Its just that funds are tight this year.

As a general rule, I feel if the money is going to a reputable charity it's probably worth paying it.

AFAIK, the Wicklow 200 isn't, so I wouldn't. You do, of course, have a constitutional right to turn up on the day and cycle the route.

To clarify, by reputable charity I mean one that exists to help people out, as opposed to the ever increasing number that exist to provide their chief executive with untold wealth.

No, the Wicklow 200 is wildly overpriced.

I have only done one and I certainly would not pay the money again to do it.
This year I will be doing my own (tougher) WW200 with added cake stops.

It is a worthy milestone at a poor price point for a sloppy service. If you do it and don't pay you can stop at any shop/pub etc and get fed and watered for less.

I'll join you on this if you're looking for company, be good training for the marmotte. Planning on doing a good few (200K/3-4000m+ climb) spins before June.

A lot of people will undoubtedly tell you that it's not worth the money in terms of what you actually physically get at registration and at the food stops (without taking into account the regular chaos at the first stop in Donard). However if you want to set yourself a goal to train for over the next six months then the W200 is (like it or not) the classic Irish "sportive" that has been going way longer than any other in this country (they must be approaching 30 years now) and longer than most in Britain too. Of course you could just tag along on the day and ride without entering - noone would know (okay, so you wouldn't have a number) and noone would really care either but for me at least, it just wouldn't be quite the same. It really is the cyclists equivalent of the Dublin marathon for runners. Sure there are plenty of other running events and other marathons too as there are now many other sportive events for cyclists but the W200 and the Dublin marathon are the big ones - do them at least once!

Whats all this shouting.... we'll have no trouble here..

I have never cycled the W200 but going on the excitement factor and the number of posts and threads about this event I thought it was the mutts nuts with all the Dublin cyclists and beyond!?!

Where are all these words of decent coming from????

    Please expand....

I would be up to this aswell. Apart from the Wicklow 200 what other sportives/events would be worthwhile doing this year

The route is challenging, there are loads of people. It's fine if you start early and/or bring some of your own food. Donard was a disaster last year.

Since it's in the Dublin area it is naturally a bit crappier and worse value than similar events elsewhere.

That's great. Two takers already for 200km of madness in Wicklow.
Route is simple. Kilakee Sally Gap Shay Elliott Sleeve Maan Tallow Mount Leinster and back.
Hoping to do in early June. 212km with 3200m of climbing.

Got there early last year, and had no problems

    NB:
Reduced rate of €33 for IVCA members
Tandems - €84 (the fee is based on the number of people, not bikes!)
    no pay = no medal:p

Can you use your Free Travel Pass to get to the event? That would leave more of your pension available to spend on Werthers Originals. :pac:

You are not that far off "veteran" status, young man (in fact, if you were a girl, you would probably be one already)!
