    Hi all

Just hope someone with some panel beating experience can advise here. I had a skid over xmas and tipped into the back of a parked car, road was like a sheet of glass, I broke the bumper and there is slight work needed on pushing out the panel inside. Roughly what should the quote be to fix the other car, My own needs some work but I am not to bothered about second hand parts for mine.

    Hi all

Just hope someone with some panel beating experience can advise here. Roughly what should the quote be to fix the other car, My own needs some work but I am not to bothered about second hand parts for mine.

About 2 years ago a lady tipped into the back of my car. It was all nicey nicey and she agreed to pay for the damages instead of claiming on her insurance as it appeared that only my bumper was damaged. That was until I brought the car to the garage that i bought it from. They put it up on the lift and showed me how some of the suspension mountings had ben damaged as well as the spare wheel compartment in the bottom of my boot being pushed in. My garage suggested that it could cost €2k to fix it. When I went back to the lady she decided to claim on her insurance. We were both with the one company, and when the assessor came out, he set the repairs at €5500. I brought it to a recommended panel beater and he charged me €5000. I had €500 for depreciation.

The car really needs to be put on a lift to see the exact damage on the inside panel. Bumpers are cheap to replace - its the damage that you can't see from the ground that costs a lot to fix.

    ^^^
    +1 with above.
the car will have to be put on a lift and checked by a mecahnic and the owner satisfied that there was no serious damage done.
I "tipped" the back of a car 2 years ago - at engine idle speed in first gear. Enough to break his rear bumper. Guess what - insurance claim for a sore neck and thousands of Euro damage to his sh1tbox of a 99 astra.
Get it checked by a garage and get a recipt for same. Good luck.

Thanks Reilig for your reply, I take your point but lets say it is the former and that it is only "cosmetic" and its a Ford Mondeo.

Cadalic I only seen your response, Basically the car was taken to his mechanic and the quote that came back was alot differant to what I would have thought

if it is only the rear bumper that was damaged, and not any other parts, it possibley would need a new bumper, theose plastic clips that hold thebumper on break very very easily... you would be talking around €800 to €900 for a new bumper full re-spray and fitting.... to be done top notch....
generally with accidents like that there is more damage under the bumper, re-enforcements, back panel, boot floor ect....

I'm sorry op but it's up to the person who's car you damaged where they get it repaired. Unfortunatly if you don't like the quote there is very little you can do about it.

At the end of the day they are entitled to have the car repaired to the same level it was in prior to the accident. If you don't want to pay for the damage out of your own pocket hand it over to your insurance to deal with.

If it was me that had had the damage done and then you started messing about I'd be straight onto your insurance company to sort it out.

as i said in my comments, this is not a smart repair, this is a new bumper(OEM) and full re-spray.... not a repair and re-spray of damaged area only, which i would consider a smart repair....
