Did anybody else manage to view Saturn at dawn this morning?

I got a great view even through an ETX 70 - skys were very clear and the rings were clearly visible even at low magnification. Great stuff.

Saturn is a great one to look at! :)

I might get up early at the weekend and have a look. It's a great one.

    Well done!

what time does saturn be visible and what direction should i look in?

Hey shinystar, at the moment it's visible first thing in the morning just before dawn, say 7:00 until about 8:15 when the sun comes up. It's above and slightly to the right of the moon - the brightest thing in the area - if you follow the path of the moon west to east then Mars is also visible at the same time.

    Good luck:)

Aye, I was looking at it. Got a picture, but need a better quality camera. I've ordered a new barlow - so hopefully, I'll get a higher res pic soon.

It becomes visible at about 1:00 - 1:30AM (depending on obstructions) and continues to rise during the night. If you download Stellarium, you can map out when it's going to be visible.

    Stellarium Website

Just adding the link in here. Choose your operating system on the right, and install. Easy peasy.

A great tool that helps you learn the constellations as you zip around it.

    :)

it's highest in the sky at about 3:30 - 4am Plug. What time did you catch it at? Much light pollution? I got a great glimpse of the Orion nebula the other night and M31.

Had some very good views of Saturn over the last 2 nights, late into the night. Orion Nebula looked amazing 2 nights ago, the first night Ive seen it with some amazing and clear detail (Ionly got a telescope at 2 months ago)
Spent most of the last 2 nights looking at Ursa major managed to see most of the visible galaxies, M81 & M82 looking really good last night, very visible.

Edit - Still cannot find M31, its driving me mad. I know Im looking in the right area but I think Im leaving too late.

@Shogun: Nice one. What scope have you got that you were able to resolve M81 and M82?

I had problems finding it at first, but a bit of star hopping and you'll find it.

Star hop to Mirach, go 2 stars to the right and you should be able to find it.

I got an 8inch starhopper, love it, its so easy to use. Then picked up a 4" refractor on sale from england, which I couldnt resist.
Yea I left it quite late to look at M81,M82 and watched them for a while, managed to do up a nice sketch of them too.

Lovely stuff! ^_^ I've a six inch mirror, so I'm not sure about finding those two.

    Nice one!
