Yes, it does. It would be very interisted to know where he got his facts so wrong -- was it via a media outlet, word of mouth etc.

    That's typical of you alright.

robby stated what he believed to be fact, and you want to catch him on not having a source so you can have the final word.

Sadly, it's all irrelevent. Unless you feel like polishing your ego some, then by all means, continue.

I don't want, nor care, about catching him out. I also don't know who he is and have no interest in getting one over on random boards.ie users. You seem to be trying to paint a different picture for some reason?

Do you not think it would be nice of him to explain on what bases he accused me of "a gross exaggeration"? If he can't back up what he is saying, then fine, so what. But it would be interesting to know what his source was or why he thought it was ok to accuse somebody of a gross exaggeration for no apparent reason.

As for your comments of it being typical of me and polishing egos -- I don't really understand where this is coming from... is there some reason you're being so aggressive? Oh, I suppose this post is typical of me and this is me polishing my ego?

Monument, just let it go. Assuming you're both talking about the same day (Wednesday 6th) then Robby is dead right in saying it was only pulled for a few hours. I've checked back on the links and it was announced at 3pm that day that all routes were temporarily suspended, I'll assume that announcement was made around an hour after the suspension started occuring. By 6pm there was another announcement saying limited service had resumed on a select number of routes. Not all of them returned by the end of that night, but most of them did.

So yes, it was only a few hours that all bus services were suspended. But you're also correct in saying they were out of action for most of the day, but these were for only some routes.

Now, unless both of you are talking about different days, or you have some other sources that contradict AA roadwatch and dublinbus.ie, then I fail to see where you're coming from.

I would love to, but I'm too pedantic. I'm a stick in the mud about facts. So, when somebody says I've made "a gross exaggeration" I'd like them to at least back up what they've said, at least to some level.

Yes, most people can read this as being up my own... ah, you get the idea. :)

I'm not sure if a day was mentioned on the thread yet, but anyway...

AA Roadwatch are not always up to date on public transport, Dublin Bus and other providers can be seen to be at fault here. Irish transport providers don't have the best record at informing passengers tbh. And as below, Dublin Bus's site went down on one of the main days of services being pulled, so a full record will not be there. The articles mentioned and linked to below fills in some of the gaps.

First you have January 1, the limited service on all routes were cancelled for nearly all of the day bar a few hours at most.

On Wednesday January 7, this happened:
    • In the morning mix info was being given and no info in some cases as depots have recently been told not to give out info on buses which has been standard practice until very recently
    • by 3pm Dublinbus.ie had not being updated since around midday
    • after 3pm the full service was pulled
    • drivers pull in and tell passages to get out, drivers soon told to return to depots
    • Dublinbus.ie goes down, replaced with a notice
    • after 5pm buses start to run again, what is identified as rush hour in Dublin has already started
    • at this stage traffic was very heavy and the roads were still bad, so it would take an hour plus for anywhere near normal services (even the limited service) to get back running fully
    • The Irish Times reported the next day "City centre traffic also came to a standstill for a number of hours" -- and I watched the same thing happen in Ballymun, traffic outbound was hardly moving at all.
    • before or after 7pm all bus services were pulled again
    • the level of service which was running before all routes were pulled again is questionableand widely differing depending on route and you had the chance you could have gotten kick out along a random road again as happened earlier in the day.
    • The Irish Times reported online (last updated that night): "Dublin Bus suspended services earlier today, attempted to resume them this evening, and then cancelled them for the night. The company says it hopes to restart services tomorrow after overnight gritting".
Actually this thread here does a good job at posting the Dublin Bus notices and mentions the news reports that fills in the gaps. Also see: No let-up expected in Arctic weather conditions, Bus passengers stranded as service stalls, Worsening weather causes major traffic disruption, Dublin Bus halts services for night.

That's no or very limited service over the evening peek bus using time between 3pm and 7pm, and no service at all after 7pm. In any case, once you can't trust the buses when services start to be pulled is when the system becomes next to useless, then the fun starts of people trying to get home and extra drivers pushed on the roads as people try to get lifts etc.

Some bus drivers reportedly carried on for a bit of time with people on board when told to do otherwise. Maybe this is why robby^5 has a different picture of the day? Maybe it was from another media source then the above which did not report the events in full? Maybe it's from the incomplete info on Dublin Bus' or the AA's websites? Maybe just from misinformed word of mouth?

I was at first genuinely interested where he was getting his info from, I think that interested has passed now, but at no point was I out to "catch him on not having a source" or trying to polish my ego. Any poster who thinks otherwise, click here as another part of boards.ie is for you!

Wow, please tell me you either have no exams to sit next week, or are completely sorted for them! That's a lot of time spent fiddling around on boards.

An assignment due by the end of this week, no exams thankfully. :)

And I was aware of all of this already so it did not take too long to put together.

Sorry but how did they get away with having flickering stage lights in the Mahony Hall in the Helix yesterday? It was like being at a f*cking rave with the lights turning on and off every few seconds and absolutely nothing was done to fix the problem. Disgracefull.

Ye that was a bit annoying. That said after the first few time it happened it was easy enough to ignore them. Still it was a unnecessary distraction.

Didnt bother me, only the loud bang in the afternoon exams disturbed me other than that was focused on the paper
