Am I killing my iPod battery?

Hey all, have a 32 gig ipod touch (2G) since august last year. Been docking it pretty much every night since as i use it as an alarm to wake up for work. Its a speaker dock that charges the iPod. Never noticed any problem with battery life until today when I had it docked in a cradle at work that doesn't charge. It gave me a 20% warning after only about 6 hours of playing music. Surely my battery isn't gone to crap already? I thought docking an iPod/iPhone was the way things were done now? Was thinking about getting an iPhone when Vodafone introduce it in February but if my putting it onto a dock every night is going to destroy the battery then whats the point like.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

    Cheers.

try using up the battery then charge it with a wall charger until full. when its full, keep it plugged in for about 10 minutes then unplug

Ya I'm aware of how to use a battery, my problem is the dock.

Actually with modern lith ion batteries you should not leave it run down unless the meter is being inaccurate. The dock shouldn't kill it at all. You could just be nearing the end of the number of good cycles. Apple will replace it for a fee if its out of warrant or you could chance it yourself.

It could also be that the speakers draw more power, how is the playback with headphones?

If you are only using it as an alarm then you don't need to dock it.
Powered off it will just go off at the set time.

That's not true for the iPhone so I assume it won't work for the iPod touch either.
