    For knitting or crochet,
Whats the best type of wool to buy? , just for someone starting out for a hobby,
and any tips would be appreciated

If anyone could recommend any good websites for buying wool that would be great.

I just received my order from Yarn Paradise (http://www.yarn-paradise.com), super quick delivery, and I paid about 10 quid for 8 skeins of wool (100 % wool, at that...). Having just started knitting with said wool, I'm pretty happy with the quality, too. (Knitting my first jumper , so I figured some cheapo wool would be best to start with).
They have a massive selection of different wool types, too. The only thing is, I think you have to order at least 8 balls - but it's inexpensive... :D

    Try http://www.theyarnroom.com
She's based in Ashford, Co. Wicklow.

She's also lovely with a massive amount of knowledge, so you could email/phone and ask questions before committing to a purchase.

    Can't recommend highly enough.
    Fabulous products.

I second the recommendation for the yarn room, I've dealt with them a few times and have always received my order very quickly and for a reasonable price.
I've ordered from the cucumber patch before and they seem to have quite a good selection as well. http://www.cucumberpatch.co.uk/.
If you're looking for cheaper stuff to practice on, you can find a lot of stuff on ebay that can work out cheaper than buying in the shops here. If you're starting out and not sure whether you want to invest a lot of money, then you will probably find that acrylic or acrylic/wool blends are the cheapest, in the shops here at any rate. Having said that, I must check out yarn paradise that was mentioned before, sounds like they have good deals.
www.ravelry.com is an online knitting community where you can find thousands of patterns and different yarns, and forums with information about everything you can think of relating to knitting. You can also find yarn that other users have for sale, and I've managed to get some really good deals on yarn thats not available in Ireland, but of course buying like that is entirely at your own risk!
Good luck anyway, hope you enjoy your new hobby!

Does anyone know if you're charged duty on wool coming from America?

New to this thingy........and not trying to annoy anyone, but the reason I opened a wool shop in Sligo was because I was struggling to buy yarns in Ireland. I have been a knitter since a wee girl (and def. not a wee girl now). I'm not trying to sell my wares but have a wealth of knowledge that I can share (sorry, I know self praise is no praise), but I love knitting sooooooo much!! I can be contacted via theginghamduck.ie if you have any questions as a new knitter. Thanks for your time.

You are liable to be charged duty and VAT on anything over a certain value (I think it's 30 Euro?) A small packet might escape attention but larger parcels and boxes are very likely to be stopped at Customs. They will then contact you (by post or email, depending on what contact details are on the parcel) and ask you to send them a copy of the invoice to prove what you paid for the goods. You can email them your PayPal invoice if that's how you paid. You will then need to pay the applicable amount on delivery.

I checked the Blanchardstown SC site and can't find Dealz. Dealz own site says their address is Unit 3, West End Retail Park but this map of Blanch doesn't give any clues as to a Unit 3? or West End? Has anyone found the shop?
