    Hi,
I have Sky in my sitting room, and would like in the bedroom aswell without having to go for multiroom. I have a Dreambox in the sitting room with a Sky card. Is it as simple as running a coax cable from the back of the box up into the attic, over to the room and down back into the room and into the TV, or do I need something else? I did a bit of research but could someone break it down a bit please? Is there some sort of "TV Link" that you need or something?
    Thanks in advance
P.S. I don't really want a video sender, the coax option would be preferred!

You can watch the same channel in the bedroom by running a good quality coax cable from the RF2 socket on the back of the sky box to the second tv. The tv link allows you to change channels using a remote control while at the second location.

Thanks Tony. Where the best place to source cox cable?

Or you could buy tranmitter boxes, like those in Aldi, Lidl or Argos, cost about €30.

Good range, perfect picture & sound and your Sky remote can be used in the second room to switch channels on Sky box - but you can only watch SAME channel in both rooms!
Still no need to run new cables along walls or skirtingboards.

Must disagree they are prone to interference from microwaves and other devices

kev, my brother did this and all you need to do is run the cable like you said from the back of your current sky box to the room, then hook it up to a magik eye (you can pick these up anywhere, all over ebay or your local sky installer should sell them for around 25-30 squids). this is basically just a reciever that works with your remote, but as one of the guys said you can only watch the same channel.

    Hi mate,
thanks everyone for your replies, is the transmitter box a wireless Video sender?

    Yes. Handy device.
I haven't experienced any interference from microwaves and other devices over the last two years. Still I'm sure it could happen, Tony would know more than I would on this subject.

Mine works fine at 70ft range between tv's, on different floors. The receiver box has a remote control sensor - not as pretty as a magic eye, but it does work. So its possible to change channels from your second tv position.

Wow, 70ft on different floors and still all good. I hadn't considered one of these before, but i might give one a shot. Do you find there is any loss of quality on the tv with the transmitter box?

Hi thanks, do you know if there is a magic eye for a Dreambox? and would I need to buy another Dreambox remote control to use the magic eye?
    Thanks

Not entirely sure about that kev, I've only really dealt with the sky box & magic eye thinggy.

You would think that it would act as a receiver in the same way (but i could be completely wrong here). Hopefully someone else has some knowledge of doing this with the dreambox!

I've personally don't like video senders I didn't find any reliable one, RF modulator is good for that (need coax anyway) up to that remote extender, and extra remote of course, maybe not cheap but just works!

Do the Dream Boxes still exist and work unscrambled? Thought they were all gone.

Hi again, I just brought in a small TV there beside the Dreambox and sitting room TV and was connected them up with a RCA plug (composite video cable - not sure what the actual name is!) and it worked no problem. Would it work as well on a 100ft cable from the sitting room to the bedroom?
    Thanks

On small TV you won't notice big difference, use coax.

Well the TV isn't that small, around 18'' or something, and the TV in the sitting room is around the same size! But would the distance be a problem?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 193 ✭✭jimzy

I don't think the length of the cable effects it at all.
We have long scart cables, coax and other cables throughout and don't see any real loss in quality.

Are you sure that the Dreambox has an RF out connector as alot of them dont ?(500,600,800)

No you're right it doesn't, I figured that out myself so tryed the A/V cable (yellow white and red cables) between the TVs and it worked. There is a "ANTENNA OUT" socket but I've been told that that won't work. jimsy, do you have long A/V cables? (around 100ft?) If you do, where did you get them? Thanks
