Ferry to Spain?

There is mention of this on the various ferry travel forums at the moment.
The port of Cork were interested in such a service two years ago.Apparently there is EU funding available for the route and there are considerable freight traffic volumes looking to get direct to Spain.
The forum discussions also place Brittany Ferries as a prime contender to operate the route as they have recently acquired an extra ship for Spanish routes from the UK and may be open to running a Cork -Santander service.

But it appears to be mostly rumour at this stage
