Is it a myth that trees can interfere with satellite Sky signals?

I recently had a second sky dish installed in my house because of a problem I'd been having with my first dish. The reception on the new dish is very poor however with half of the channels giving a "no signal" received message. The dish is placed in the direct path of a big tree that has no leaves on it right now. I mentioned the odd placement of the dish to the guy who installed it but he said that satelite signal being interferred with by trees is a myth.
Everyone else I've asked has said that trees do affect the strength of the signal.
    Is this true?

I was having problems with my signal too until a technician came to the house and said the trees in front of the dish were causing the problem. Sure enough after trimming them down the signal returned to normal. So it can't be that much of a myth.

Hi Chilly, That engineer should have the odd placement of a dish on his head. It's not a myth at all.

Not a myth. I lost access to 42° East due to pesky trees in the spring and summer time.

Trees in close proximity to your dish will cause problems as its does indeed block signals being received. I regulary get service calls to badly installed dishes or due to trees that have grown over a number of years.

Any properly trained installer would know this and if you were told it was a myth by him then name and shame them..

Thanks a million everyone. I'll have to get back on the phone so and get someone out. It's becoming somewhat of a joke at this stage. At least now I'm confident that it's not a myth about the trees I'll fight my corner if they expect me to pay to install the dish elsewhere. I really appreciate the replies
