    Hi all,

I am trying to setup my mates ps3 for him at home. He has his PC full of movies/music etc and wants to share it to the PS3 downstairs and have internet on the PC and PS3.

Now I have this setup myself on a wired network at home using ps3mediaserver for sharing the media. It wall works a charm at home and my buddy wants the same setup.

So off i go and try to set it up for him with no joy at all. He can get internet sorted wirelessly no bother but the ps3mediaserver wont pick up the ps3? I have UPNP enabled and the ps3 connection confirms its enabled. what am i missing? (WEP enabled too).

Let start from scracth eh? What do i need to do get media/internet to the ps3 via wireless?

    thanks in advance.

Are there any other ports that are required to be open for the PS3 to be able to access the media server?

I'd avoid WEP btw, it's easily hacked. WPA/WPA2 is the way to go.

No ports required to be opened.... I can change it to WPA...

again i am looking for the best solution from scratch...

Even though the psmediaserver is a server, does it require for file and printer sharing to enabled on windows for it to be accessed?

all it needs is UPNP enabled within the network sharing centre and it is enabled on the PC and the router.

This probably won't be much help, but I'm using the ps3mediaserver on my PC - and I often change between wireless and wired on the PS3. It works the same way on both connections, as long as I've set up the wireless on the PS3 it sees the media server just as if it was a wired connection.

all it needs is UPNP enabled within the network sharing centre and it is enabled on the PC and the router.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but my UPnP is not available on the PS3 but I can stream music from laptop to PS3.

I have the Media Server Connection enabled under the Network Settings on my PS3.

check the pc firewall and router firewall. make sure that they arent blocking upnp. windows firewall blocks it by default.

I had this working for me on a netgear router on eircom using mediaserver and windows media player (it adds 2 files to your PC firewall which you must allow access to ....wmplayer.exe and wmpnetwk.exe). There was a setting in the netgear router to allow all the devices on the network see each other. Cannot remember what it was exactly but it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Now I have cisco UPC job and I could not get it working (did'nt try to hard either). Assuming you have your PC end correctly configured it should work the same as above but the UPC router did not allow all devices see each other by default. There must be a similar sitting in there somewhere to the netgear job.

Try disabling your PC firewall and test using something very easy to understand like windows media player for now. If the PS3 does not show up then it is more likely a router setting. uPnP enabled works very well on the cisco router (as far as the resources I need it for). It is not turned on by default. Don't forget to enable it also on the PS3. That will take care of ports.

I have a Wii, Xbox360, Ps3, laptop, PC, itouch and nokia E51 talking to the cisco wirelessly using WPA2 encryption and none of them see each other. Likely to be a check box on the router somewhere.

You may get trouble logging in to the router (I have anyway) which is easily resolved by rebooting the router and then using 192.168.1.1. admin - no name and password - no name by default.

    I have a similar set-up working.

I have a windows server 2008 with one 1.5 tb disk of movies setup streaming to my PS3.

I'm using TwonkyMedia and as a previous poster mentioned they are several other services which have to be enabled in order for it to work, also you can enable TwonkyMedia as a service, so it's process will activate automatically once the server side is on.

Wish I could say more, as I am a bit Twonky myself after a few beers.

Im using the ntl router (newish one) and it wasnt a problem to setup. just tweaked the firewall so it was on a lower setting and enabled upnp was enabled.. works fine. using windows media center + ps3..

Also set it up using Tversity as well just to test it out and thats fine too..
