This 'ultimate edition' of the book, written by the Olympic runner and world record holder Gordon Pirie, includes all the photograph and other scans that were previously in a separate 'extras' file i.e. everything is now in this single file rather than two. Hopefully it will make the book more interesting to read! Please share this book as widely as you wish. Gordon's strong views on running shoe manufacturers always meant this would be a self-published venture, and my whole purpose in seeing this through was to fulfil my promise to Gordon to 'spread the word', before he died at a ridiculously early age of cancer. If Gordon still exists somewhere in some form, you can be sure he'll be 'running wild' in the middle of nowhere, racing towards eternity. He was always a 1950s athlete with an unfashionably (for the time) modern outlook. In the Web 2.0 era, he would be in his element.

Every runner should read this book.

I couldn't recommend this book more, and all for free.

Worthy of a bump. Got a mention on a blog today with a link to a pdf version. Massively enjoyed the read. Will be checking out the scribd.com link above for the additional archive of material in the Ultimate version.

Just after finishing reading this book, It is a great read, you could feel how much he loved running and the amount of training he did. unreal!!! I went to the beach today running in my barefeet and tried to run with a flex in my knee and without putting any extra effort into i was flying down the beach. I dont know now if i was doing it right, if i had too much of a flex in the knee but it is something that i will work on.

I would recommend this read to anyone.
