    Hi There,

Any advice on whether to run or not when you have a cold? Its not a heavy cold but im just wondering if I might make it worse or in fact I could actually sweat the cold out of me:D

I wouldnt , unless you are a total addict then theres no point cos you wont listen;).
I did just that ( running with a flu) and got progressively worse and worse over christmas, got bronchitis and a worse flu through running in the cold etc, took me 7/8 days to recover, its really not worth it....!

I have been running with a headcold for the last few days, but I don't know if I should be or not. I'll tell you in a week or so

similar. i turned a cold into flu with a run on new years eve. today is my first day out of bed since. you ll just run your immune system down. take a day or two off and it wont cost you a week

DEpends on the severity, if it's just sinuses and a runny or blocked nose (like I had over Christmas), I would wrap up really well and run it out of you. I find it can help somewhat. Make sure you wear hat gloves and possibly a scarf though

    I'm the same as well.

Had the beginnings of a cold but headed out anyway, only to end up with a chest infection over Christmas (the first time i've been properly sick in about 3 years). Just over it now.

Usually I find a bit of a run helps to clear a blocked nose etc.. but if your feeling chesty then give it a day or two

Thanks guys, I think I will hold off for a few days so. It will kill me not to head out this evening but I think ye are right-best be careful now rather than being sorry later

I heard or read somewhere a few years ago that if it's in your head then it's ok to exercise but not if it's on your chest.

Having said that and considering the weather at the moment, if you've got a head cold I'd say take a few days off and have some lemsips and vitamin c and wait it out.

I only got out once since Xmas (in the snow & ice) but decided to wait a few days for the ice to melt off before going out again - what happens in the meantime ? As of Thurs. my nose starts running like a tap and I've ended up with a savage headcold......sorely tempted to go out tomorrow and have a run regardless of what it does to me !

The enforced layoff is not doing my 1000 mile for 2010 challenge any good - I'm still stuck on zero ! I only just made it over the line last year, and I have to take at least 4 weeks off in March after a planned op. on my back so more than ever, I need to get going !!
