I bought a laptop for my son 2yrs ago.. he let it fall and gradually the screen started to fade to black on one side so I took it back to the shop and thankfully they fixed it. Now, its sort of doing the same thing again. the screen is flickering and fadeing almost half the screen. It would drive me mad to try and watch anything on it.
Question is. how serious it this? should I take it back to the shop even though its well out of guarantee or is it worth fixing. thanks

When you brought it back to the shop and they fixed it, that fix should of been permanent in my opinion.

How long has it been since you had it in the shop being fixed?

Eg, Did they fix it and now a week later the same problem is happening or has it been months?

in laptop screens there are 2 parts, the screen itself and something that's know as an inverter.

the inverter is relatively cheap and is possibly what they replaced in the first place. 20-40 euro.

you could ask they try that first, before you splash out on a replacement screen.

edit: that being said, a replacement screen would be in excess of 100 euro, possibly 150. if it's 2 years old you're getting to the point of diminishing returns where a spend of 400 euro would get you a new laptop.

I can't comment on whether it should be still under warranty. That's more consumer affairs tbh.

thanks for the advice. good lad.. well, I cant find my receipts for the repair but I believe it did take it in while it was still under guarntee (just) and they fixed it but that is about a year ago and its has been very gradually getting worse. I think I may just take it to some repair shop and see what they say. I imagine the chances of the shop fixing it now are very slim

Been a good while since I paid more than 80 quid including delivery from Flea Bay.
