    Hi All,

Just a quick question that Ive been thinking of for the alst few weeks and something that has popped up with my friends.

During an outbreak alot of peoples plan will be to hide out in there attics and some people will attempt to knock there stairs to, trying to ensure the best possible chances of survival and some fortunate peole have a good HQ far from the city that they can retreat to.

Like most people I cant flee to a HQ far from the city and plan on knocking the stairs and living in the attic with supplies. My question is will anybody be marking there house with a sign that reads something like " Survivors inside ".

I am asking as if the Z's dont reach your house, chances are other survivors will try and take refugee in your house when the see this type of message and no Z's swarming the area.

As much as I want mankind to survive, I will not be making a message like that just incase a group does show up and tries to either take our supplies or house.

whats your opinions people, try and play it safe and let nobody know or get desperate and tell the world and maybe a possible rescue team?

I think you're right to be cautious about putting any kind of message on your home. At least anything that will draw attention to your hide out. Having said that perhaps a "B & a Z" on the front of your house will do nicely? (Boards Zombies). That way we'll all know who's who and that you're prepared and are open to looking after a fellow boardsie?

Good idea with the BZ initials. I would welcome anybody from here with open arms, with all the knowledge from this forum anybody that posts here understands the struggle we are going to be involved in and I would help andbody from here no questions.

Maybe putting BZ somewhere it can be viewed but isnt out of place, maybe make it look like graffiti and have it going at a sideays angle about 6 inches per letter max as to not make it look to out of place.

6 inches? not very big mate, i reckon make it as big as possible since Z's can't read it'll be ok. the main point is not to make it inviting to other survivors. Perhaps paint it in red or in blood :)

    Case and point;

I am being chased by a dozen Z's, im legging it past your gaff but dont notice the 6 ince BZ on the front of your gaff = dead.

However if iam being chased by a dozen Zs and i can see your gaff from 100 meters away I now know where i am running to!! Natrually I wouldn't enter your gaff with Z's in tow if that were to happen chuck me a baseball bat and i'll dispose of them before entering.

Right so, BZ as big as possible, in red, anywhere on the house and anybody that can identify themselves from Boards will be granted immediate access.:)

Also a sign saying tresspassers will be eaten should be put up as a novelty touch:p

Perhaps we could spray paint the message on the gaff in massive letters.

"Infected" with BZ as a kind of signature or initials under it?

that way any survivor will think twice before entering an "infected" house? Where as any boards member will know what to do :)

Again, good idea, will make any survivors think twice before trying to raid a house that was possibly infected.:D

No signs, Jebus! Law and order has broken down in the event of a zombie infestation, so you have feral/evil humans to contend with too. Any indication that survivors with food/resources are inside is like a big target sign on your back.

I'd Keep a lookout for rescue teams and potential friendlies, but stay hidden.

    Erm,

    Infected

would be spray painted on the front of the house = any survivor will stay away.

Well, if you don't advertise your existence it's just a waiting game until the Zs find you or the supplies run low and force you to leave and the Zs find you.

If Zs don't read then I'd put a big sign on the house in the hope a larger group scouting would see it and bring me/us into their fold (unless they're praying Christians in which case I'd rather take my chances out there).

    Unless of course they're
    - bad-ass zombie hunters who'll kill you despite your protestations.
    - smart lurkers who used the last few hours of internet access to bone up on what to do from this board while most people were watching p0rn.

I would welcome any wana be raider into my house. They would need to first get past the electic fencing, the baracades and me with my vast array of weapons and explosives.

the wood be raiders would be raided for ammo and supplies.

Well after destroying my stairs I will continue to live upstairs and keep a look out for any Z's from front and back during the day and move into the attic for sleep as the chances are survivors will get the wrong impression and try to move at night instead of during the day.

Either way Im going to drill a small hole through the floor boards from the attic to be able to see every room upstairs from the safety of the attic before I head down from there.

If we can make it for up to 6-8 weeks after the initial outbreak then I reckon we will survive.

Shallow grave eh? Dont go nuts in the attic :)

just thinking about this thread! i doubt any boardzie would find you! id say well lose half of us in the opening days of the outbreak! and the remaining will be to spread out!

The intial stages of an outbreak. Any sign to the street is asking for trouble.

Just think of the opening scene of 28 weeks later with the kid.
Some boardies might be nice enough to not lead a horde of zombies to you but other may just get too panicked and lead them right to you.

I think the idea that boardsies have any kind of special knowledge is a little naive. After a few days natural selection will sort out who knows how to survive.

I have to say the attic isn't the best idea from the outset. That should be your final line of retreat, and even then only if you can't get out an upstairs window. As lots of people in hurricane Katrina discovered, its not that easy to bash a hole in the roof and leg it, you could very easily end up being trapped there.

My advice would be to abandon the ground floor with its multitude of windows, take all the furniture you can get and wedge it into an impenetrable mass in the stairwell, tying it all together with multiple strands of rope or wire, and secure as much area as you can on the upper floor.

Hope you have two months dry food and water up there! :D

If you have a nice large water tank in the attic, try and turn it into some form of bunker. Turn it upside down and strap it down with large cables/weights. Leave a way of getting into it (such as the stick holding up the box trap) so worst case scenario if they do get upto the attic, you can protect yourself under it. Now, wouldnt be too comfortable, but if it was big enough, and you had enough food/water to last for around 2 weeks (which isint that much) you should be ok :D
