I have been looking for a target to train for in early 2010 and seen the War race in Wicklow in April. But have noticed that its limited to 500 entries. Just wondering if anyone has an idea of how "elite" the field might be? I did Gael Force last year and i got in in about 5 1/2 hours so i have a fear of being out of my depth in the War race. Any opinions on the matter would be great....

There aren't many "elite" adventure racers in Ireland, and it's unlikely to attract elite triathletes, so with 500 entrants there'll be a huge majority of non-elites in the field. You won't be out of your depth.

Hey Matty, the fact that you've already done a race like this already means you'll be grand. I know a couple of 6 and 6.5 hour Gaelforce veterans who are doing this and another three who have just started running in the last couple of months. Another girl has done one jog but I'll get her trained up in time for WAR! I think on the Gaelforce site they've set a standard of 5.5 hours if you want to enter the first wave in Gaelforce so they consider that to be a pretty good level. You'll be grand.

Thanks for the advise, makes me feel a little better, just have to get stuck into some training now!!! Would either of you care to recommend a pair of trail runners. I wore normal runners for the Gaelforce but i see that i wont get away with them in War.
