Probably "Let The Right One In".

HMV in Dublin have it, probably most other decent sized DVD outlets, or you could just use the usual online retailers.

Every single US remake is ****e compared to the originals.
Well, all I've seen so far.

    Solaris
    Scent of a Woman
    Twelve Monkeys
    The Departed
Funny Games (though it's fairly identical to the original)
    The Magnificent Seven

You can certainly argue that they don't eclipse the originals, but that they're ****e compared to them, no way.

Actually you're right. Maybe it's for another thread, comparing originals and remakes.

Im sorry but Cluny's Solaris is dump vs Tarkovksy's, and its probably Tarkovsky's worst film as well.

Twelve monkeys is about the only one on your list Ive seen apart from The Magnificent Seven (which isnt better than the original either),and I might agree with you, but have you seen La Jetee? Ive seen 12 monkeys sh1tloads of times now, enough to actually be able to give a summary of the plot right now if required, and part of what makes it so amazing for me is thinking how he adapted Marker's version. They are two completely different films really, just with the most basic structure of the plot the same in both. I love thinking about how Gilliam must have gone about remaking it, actually stripping the Marker down to the absolute bare elements of the plot. Id love to see something like that done for a really complex Noir, or something like Miller's Crossing by the Coen brothers.
