I'd really appreciate your suggestions on which laptop to get :D

    Budget: €500.00 maximum

Intended use: College work (photography, Photoshop, Word), internet, video games

Mobility: I don't want a small laptop (my eyes aren't that good), average size or a little bigger would suit me

    Warranty: Not important

What Operating System do you use? Windows (I want to stick with it)

    Hey Sera

Went on dabs and had a look, some nice ones if you push the budget a little further but its up to you. For instance I like this Fujitsu, it looks good, has a decent sized screen and is specced nicely heres a link for you

On the other hand there is a pretty sturdy samsung which is right on the €400 mark

For basic stuff like browsing etc and using word won't require much, but for photoshop and software that can be hard on your CPU, a nice little quick machine with good ram and a CPU around 2ghz would be ideal i'd say but I'm no expert. Have a look anyway.

You mention photoshop and games in your post. What kind of games are you thinking of specifically? As you may want to look second hand if it's anything in any way recent. And what kind of photoshop work will you be doing? If it's basic stuff you'd probably be alright, but anything more and it will struggle.

Well it'd be Sims 2 games my other games are pretty old and we're using Photoshop CS3 in college.

I'm going to Harvey Norman with my sister on Tuesday hopefully, is there a certain brand I should watch out for or avoid?

Not really. I'd just advise NOT buying on Tuesday. Take a pen and paper with you, take down the make and models of laptops you like. Go home and research them. http://www.notebookcheck.net/ is a good site to start, but Google will get you plenty of info aswell.

Should then be pretty clear which laptop would be the best for your money

I just bought one of the Advent Roma 2000's from PC world/ Currys for €379...

320g Hard Drive, 2.2ghz and 3G ram in a 15.5inch screen. Not the smallest laptop but for the money I reckon it's grand.

They did give me the hard sell with their warranty though which was annoying and the sales man was telling me that he does peer to peer file sharing and looks at porna dn he would get the warranty if he were me... I declined!
